Toyota Mobile Toilet

Toyota has relevant designs and practices in the field of mobile toilets, launching a variety of mobile facilities and vehicle models equipped with toilets.

Toyota's 'Visual Design Department' was responsible for designing mobile accessible toilets. This project originated from the earnest request of wheelchair users who said, 'Even with disabilities, we want to go to different places.' In 2019, a project team was established, and a prototype mobile toilet trailer was put into use during the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics. During the design process, the needs of wheelchair users were fully considered:

• Floor color and material: To avoid wheelchair tracks being left on brightly colored floors, colors that are less likely to leave tracks are used. Since disabled individuals have no sensation in their feet, moving from a wheelchair to a toilet can be dangerous on a slippery surface, so a rough, friction-providing floor material is chosen.
• Toilet height: Considering that foreign electric wheelchairs have higher seats, the toilet height is set about 3 cm higher than that of a regular toilet, making it easier for wheelchair users to move from the wheelchair to the toilet.

In addition to the mobile accessible toilet trailer, Toyota has also launched vehicle models equipped with toilets:

• Toyota Coaster: There are models equipped with toilets. The vehicle is equipped with a sink, storage compartments, a vehicle-mounted toilet, and other facilities, meeting the basic hygiene needs of users during travel.
• 2026 Toyota Hiace 6-Seater Toilet Version: It comes with a toilet and features a wet-dry separation design, effectively preventing the spread of water stains and keeping the interior dry and clean. It is equipped with a non-slip teak floor, increasing safety when walking. The top-mounted silent exhaust fan can promptly expel odors, keeping the air fresh. The Panasonic nanoe ion deodorization system further purifies the air. The AI intelligently monitors air quality and automatically adjusts the exhaust fan's operating status according to the air conditions. It is also equipped with a sliding folding door, saving space and ensuring privacy.
