Tourism Area Container House
Admin September 15, 2026
Tourism area container houses are architectural forms transformed or constructed using containers as carriers, featuring residential and commercial functions. They are widely used in scenic areas and have characteristics such as modularity, mobility, and rapid construction.

Design and Construction Features
- Modular Design: Container houses use standard shipping containers or customized containers as basic units, forming buildings of different scales and functions through modular combinations. For example, in the practice of urban renewal and tourism adaptation, Jiejing Menggongchang used 63 creative containers arranged in a staggered manner to create a creative alley that combines aesthetics and warmth; the container guesthouse on Yangshan Island in Lianyungang, Jiangsu, is built with 108 containers, integrating island-style guesthouses, food experiences, and cultural creativity.
- Mobility and Disassembly: Container houses have the flexible attributes of being disassemblable and relocatable, suitable for scenic environments such as forests, lakesides, and slopes where large-scale construction is not feasible. When the functions of the scenic area need adjustment or relocation, container houses can be hoisted as a whole to a new site, with the disassembly and assembly loss rate kept at a low level, significantly reducing the generation of construction waste.
- Rapid Construction: Container houses adopt a factory-prefabricated and on-site-hoisted construction method, greatly shortening the construction cycle. For example, a container guesthouse can be designed and opened in as short as 45 days, quickly meeting the construction needs of scenic areas.
Functions and Application Scenarios
- Accommodation Function: Container houses can be transformed into accommodation spaces such as guesthouses and hotels, adapting to various terrain environments. For example, the "Bamboo Whisper Mountain Shelter" project in Mogan Mountain, Zhejiang, is transformed from 12 containers; the "Erhai Ark" guesthouse in Dali, Yunnan, retains the original steel plate texture of the containers, creating a unique loft space.
- Commercial Function: They can serve as scenic area ticket booths, tourist service centers, specialty shops, cultural and creative spaces, etc. For example, the Riyue Mountain Container Coffee Shop meets the needs of both passing by for drinks and sitting down to rest through reasonable design of doors, windows, courtyards, and second-floor terraces.
- Composite Function: Some container houses integrate multiple functions. For example, the container guesthouse on Yangshan Island in Lianyungang, Jiangsu, not only provides accommodation but also has functional areas for food experiences and cultural creativity.
Environmental Protection and Sustainability
- Material Recycling: The core value of container houses lies in the full life-cycle recycling of their materials, reducing carbon emissions and construction waste compared to traditional buildings.
- Environmentally Friendly and Energy-Saving Systems: Some container houses achieve environmental protection and energy saving through systems such as photovoltaic power supply and rainwater harvesting, in line with the concept of sustainable development.
