Relocation of Toilet Shower Position

Admin September 21, 2026

The position of the toilet shower can be relocated, but it needs to be handled differently according to the stage of renovation and the distance of relocation, and it involves significant engineering and costs.

1. Relocation During Renovation

If it is in the early stages of bathroom renovation and the laying of water pipes and floor drains has not been completed, relocating the shower position is relatively flexible. You can re-plan the layout of hot and cold water pipes, drainage pipes, and floor drains according to the new position, ensuring that all pipes are connected to the main sewer and that sufficient slope (usually, the slope of drainage pipes should be ≥1%) is reserved to avoid water accumulation. The cost of relocation at this stage is relatively low, but it is necessary to confirm the plan with the construction party in advance to avoid rework later.

2. Relocation After Renovation Completion

If the bathroom has already been renovated, the relocation plan for the shower position should be selected based on the distance:

  • Short-distance relocation (≤200 mm): A relocation device can be used to extend the drainage pipe, and the shower position can be relocated within a small range by adjusting the position of the floor drain. This method is simple in construction, but it should be noted that the relocation device may increase drainage resistance, so sufficient slope must be ensured.
  • Long-distance relocation (>500 mm): A flat pipe should be used to extend the sewer, and the drainage pipe should be laid horizontally to the new position and then connected to the main sewer. This method requires breaking the floor or wall tiles, and the construction is complex and may affect the waterproof layer, so waterproof treatment needs to be redone.

3. Special Treatment for Tiled Floors

If the floor has been tiled and it is impossible to lay hot and cold water pipes concealedly, relocation can be achieved by laying pipes openly: lay the pipes along the wall and fix them with brackets, and cover the exposed parts with decorative covers. Although this method affects aesthetics, it can avoid breaking the floor and is suitable for temporary or low-cost renovations.

4. Precautions and Alternative Solutions

  • Engineering complexity: Relocating the shower position usually requires modifying the original layout (such as water pipes, floor drains, wires, etc.), involving multiple processes such as waterproofing and tile repair, which are costly and time-consuming.
  • Drainage and waterproofing: After modification, it is necessary to ensure that the drainage pipes are firmly connected, the slope is reasonable, and a closed-water test (at least 24 hours) should be carried out again to verify the waterproofing effect.
  • Alternative optimization: If relocation is not necessary, you can optimize the user experience by adjusting the height of the showerhead, adding a glass partition, or replacing it with a multi-functional showerhead, reducing the difficulty and cost of renovation.

Summary: The relocation of the shower position should be comprehensively decided based on the stage of renovation, distance, and budget. Priority should be given to adjustments during the concealed engineering stage. For completed renovations, the engineering complexity and costs should be carefully evaluated, and alternative solutions can be considered when necessary.
