How to Move the Toilet Seat
Moving the toilet seat usually involves relocating the toilet, and different methods can be adopted based on the drainage type and the layout of the apartment.

Selecting the Relocation Method Based on the Drainage Type
- Same-floor drainage: The drainage pipes are located on the floor of your own unit, making the relocation operation relatively flexible. Direct pipe modification is a common approach. By re-laying the drainage pipes, you can adjust the toilet's position to the desired location. However, it is essential to ensure that the new pipes have a reasonable slope to guarantee smooth drainage and prevent blockages. Using a toilet offset flange is also an option. This device can change the position of the toilet's drainage outlet, enabling a small-scale relocation. It is generally suitable for situations where the relocation distance is relatively short, and the installation is relatively simple.
- Inter-floor drainage: The drainage branch pipes are installed below the floor slab of your unit, i.e., below the ceiling of the downstairs neighbor's unit. The selection of relocation methods requires more caution. A toilet offset flange can be used for small-scale relocations, but the relocation distance is limited, and it may affect the drainage performance. Raising the floor involves raising the entire bathroom floor and re-laying the drainage pipes within the raised space to achieve toilet relocation. However, this method occupies a certain amount of ceiling height and increases renovation costs. Converting from floor drainage to wall drainage changes the toilet's drainage method from floor-based to wall-mounted. By installing drainage pipes on the wall, the toilet's position becomes more flexible. However, the construction is more challenging and has certain requirements for the wall structure. Modifying the sewage pipes requires transforming the original sewage pipes, which is a significant project that needs to be carried out by professionals and may involve issues such as property management approval. Negotiating with neighbors to modify the pipes, if the downstairs neighbor agrees, you can negotiate with them to relocate the drainage pipes to the downstairs neighbor's bathroom. However, this method is difficult to coordinate and may affect neighborly relations.
Considering the Layout of the Apartment
The relocation distance of the toilet has a significant impact on the drainage performance. The longer the relocation distance, the longer the horizontal drainage pipe will be, and the higher the probability of the sewer pipe getting blocked. Therefore, it is recommended to keep the relocation distance within 30 centimeters. If relocation is necessary due to special circumstances, the maximum distance should not exceed 1 meter. Before relocation, it is necessary to fully consider factors such as the bathroom's spatial layout and pipe routing to reasonably plan the relocation plan, ensuring that the toilet functions normally and the drainage is smooth after relocation.
