The Position of the Toilet Can Be Moved

Admin October 08, 2026

The position of the toilet can be moved, and the following are some common relocation methods:

Using a toilet offset connector This is the most commonly used method, suitable for small-scale relocation, such as moving the toilet 5 - 40 centimeters to the left or right. The offset connector adjusts the position by extending the sewage pipe. It is simple to install and has a relatively low cost. Key precautions:

  1. The relocation distance should not exceed 40 centimeters; otherwise, the flushing force will be weakened, which may easily lead to blockages. If a longer distance is required, it is advisable to choose other methods.
  2. During construction, a slope of 1% - 3% should be reserved to ensure the smooth discharge of sewage and prevent water accumulation or backflow.
  3. The offset connector should be installed before laying floor tiles to avoid damaging the floor structure later.
  4. The length of offset connectors on the market ranges from about 8 centimeters to 60 - 70 centimeters, but it is generally recommended not to exceed 60 centimeters. Excessive length may cause poor drainage.

Raising the floor method This method is suitable for long-distance relocation (e.g., more than 40 centimeters). It achieves layout flexibility by building a base platform 180 - 200 millimeters high and embedding the sewage pipe. Advantages and limitations:

  1. Advantages: It is not restricted by the distance limit of the offset connector and allows flexible adjustment of the toilet position. The pipes are hidden inside the base platform, making the appearance neater.
  2. Limitations: Raising the floor reduces the ceiling height, affecting aesthetics and convenience of use (e.g., having to step up and down to use the toilet), and may increase renovation costs.
  3. Construction points: The base platform should be firmly combined with the floor, and the slope of the sewage pipe should be precisely controlled to prevent later leakage.

Re-drilling holes or wall-mounted toilet renovation This method achieves relocation by changing the sewage discharge method and is divided into two forms:

  1. Changing from floor drainage to wall drainage: The original floor sewage pipe is changed to be laid along the wall, with the pipes hidden inside the wall or decorative layer. This method does not require raising the floor and has relatively simple construction.
  2. Installing a wall-mounted toilet: The water tank is embedded in the wall, and the toilet is hung on the wall. It has a strong flushing force and is easy to clean, but the installation is more difficult. Key points:
    • The wall structure should be planned in advance (e.g., building a new false wall or using a non-load-bearing wall) to ensure the stable installation of the water tank.
    • The wall-mounted sewage pipe should maintain a reasonable slope to avoid blockage risks.
    • This method is suitable for users who pursue space utilization and a modern and simple style, but later maintenance may require damaging the wall.

Selection suggestions: For small-scale relocation, the offset connector is the first choice. For long-distance relocation and if you can accept the change in ceiling height, consider raising the floor. When pursuing aesthetics and practicality and having a sufficient budget, wall-mounted toilet renovation is a better solution. Before construction, a comprehensive assessment should be made based on the house layout, drainage system, and usage requirements, and professional plumbers should be consulted if necessary.
