How to Disassemble a Portable Air Conditioner in the Toilet
Admin October 07, 2026
Disassembling a portable air conditioner in the toilet requires combining equipment characteristics with safety regulations. The specific steps are as follows:

I. Preparation
- Consult the Manual: Confirm the disassembly guide for the equipment model (such as 5524 or other models), as different models may have differences in details.
- Power Disconnection: Turn off the power and unplug the cord. Wait for at least 30 minutes to ensure there is no residual current inside, avoiding the risk of electric shock.
II. Tool and Material Preparation
- Basic Tools: Adjustable wrench (8-10mm), Phillips/flat-head screwdrivers, pliers (for disassembling connectors).
- Safety Protection: Cotton gloves (to prevent cuts), safety goggles (to prevent splashes of refrigerant or debris), sealing tape (for sealing copper pipes), and an empty container (for collecting refrigerant).
- Packaging Materials: Bubble wrap, foam boards, plastic bags (to protect components and prevent damage during handling).
III. Disassembly Steps
- Remove the Filter and Panel
- Unlock or unscrew the front panel screws, take out the filter, clean it, and store it properly.
- Recover the Refrigerant
- Enter the 'Refrigerant Recovery Mode' through the remote control or control panel (some models may require a combination of keys to activate). Drain the R410 refrigerant from the system. Non-professionals discharging it privately may violate environmental regulations such as the Montreal Protocol. It is recommended to contact after-sales service for handling.
- Disconnect the Pipe Connections
- Close the valves and use a wrench to rotate the copper pipe connectors counterclockwise (the left copper pipe should be rotated clockwise due to its reverse thread design).
- Support the bent part of the copper pipe to avoid deformation caused by gravity pulling (Phosphorus deoxidized copper TP2 material is prone to breakage if bent more than 45 degrees).
- Disassemble the Accessories and Brackets
- Remove the brackets or additional components (such as drain pipes and fixing frames) that are secured with screws.
- Separate the Copper Pipes
- Remove the side cover of the outdoor unit (2-3 Phillips screws) to expose the connectors.
- Immediately wrap 3-5 turns of sealing tape around both ends of the copper pipes after separation, or use special plugs to seal them to prevent dust or moisture from entering.
IV. Handling and Storage
- Handle with Care: Avoid collisions. Use handling equipment or seek assistance and maintain the natural curve of the copper pipes.
- Clean and Package: After cleaning all components, wrap them with bubble wrap and foam boards and store them in a dry and dark place.
V. Precautions
- If the copper pipes need to be reused, check whether the O-ring seals at the ports are cracked (More than 90% of leaks originate from here).
- For complex steps (such as refrigerant recovery), it is recommended to contact after-sales service or professionals to ensure compliance and safety in the operation.
