What is the toilet pipe movement called

Admin October 13, 2026

When it comes to adjusting the position of the toilet's drainage outlet, a 'toilet offset connector' is commonly used. Its professional names are offsetter or drainage offset connector, and it is a core tool for resolving the mismatch between the reserved drainage outlet in the bathroom and the toilet's drainage outlet. The following provides an explanation from three aspects: function, application scenarios, and alternative solutions.

Core Function of the Toilet Offset Connector

The toilet offset connector extends or adjusts the connection path of the drainage pipe, enabling the forward, backward, left, or right movement of the drainage outlet position, typically within a range of 10-30 centimeters. Its design principle involves adding a flexible pipe section between the original drainage outlet and the toilet connection, ensuring a tight connection with sealing rings and fasteners to prevent leakage. For example, when there is a 15-centimeter deviation between the reserved drainage outlet on the bathroom floor and the toilet installation position, the offset connector can extend the pipe and adjust the angle to precisely align the toilet's drainage outlet with the reserved floor outlet.

Application Scenarios and Limitations

This tool is mainly suitable for local position adjustments, such as fine-tuning the toilet position due to changes in renovation layout or when the drainage outlet position does not match the new toilet model during old house renovations. However, it should be noted that the offset connector changes the original slope of the drainage pipe, and improper installation may lead to poor drainage or blockage. Therefore, caution should be exercised when the movement distance exceeds 20 centimeters, and it is recommended to increase the pipe slope (usually not less than 2%) or use a pipe with a larger diameter (e.g., from 110 millimeters to 160 millimeters) to reduce the risk of blockage.

Alternative Solutions for Complex Pipe Adjustments

If the entire pipe position needs to be moved (such as for cross-room renovations or significant toilet position adjustments), more complex engineering solutions are required:

  1. Raising the Floor for Movement: By elevating the height of the bathroom floor (usually by 10-15 centimeters), new pipes can be laid above the original ones, suitable for scenarios with a large movement distance and sufficient ceiling height.
  2. Creating New Holes for Movement: Drilling new drainage outlets in the floor slab or wall requires coordination with property management and ensuring structural safety, suitable for ground-floor residences or buildings allowing structural modifications.
  3. Installing Wall-Hung Toilets: Using wall-mounted toilets with the water tank and drainage pipe hidden inside the wall, connected to the main drainage pipe via a horizontal pipe, allows for flexible adjustment of the toilet position and saves space. However, it requires advance planning of the wall structure and water layout.

All the above solutions require professional plumbing work and must comply with the requirements of the 'Code for Design of Building Water Supply and Drainage' regarding pipe slope, tightness, and seismic resistance.
