Toilet Movement by 10 cm

Admin October 08, 2026

Moving the toilet by 10 cm (relocating the toilet bowl by 10 cm) is generally feasible using a professional toilet offset adapter, but the following key points must be strictly controlled:

  1. Drainage Slope Control
The pipe slope is a core parameter for relocation and must maintain a 1.2%-2% incline (i.e., a drop of 1.2-2 cm per 1 meter of pipe). If the slope is too small, waste is prone to stagnation, leading to blockages; if the slope is too steep, it may cause excessive water flow and inadequate flushing. During construction, a spirit level must be used for precise measurement to ensure a uniform slope and avoid local depressions or protrusions.

  2. Offset Adapter Installation Specifications
The offset adapter must be fully embedded beneath the floor tiles, and the connection with the original drain pipe must be sealed using hot-melt welding or specialized adhesive to prevent joint loosening and leakage. Before installation, debris inside the pipe walls must be cleaned to prevent blockages from construction residues; after installation, a closed-water test (filling with water for 24 hours to observe for leaks) must be conducted, and floor tiles can only be laid after confirmation of no issues.

  3. Offset Adapter Material Selection
Priority should be given to offset adapters with a smooth inner wall and strong corrosion resistance (such as PVC-U material), which have a low friction coefficient on the inner wall, reducing dirt adhesion and lowering the risk of blockages. Avoid using products made from recycled materials or with insufficient wall thickness, as such materials are prone to aging and cracking, affecting service life.

  4. Toilet Type Adaptation
It is recommended to choose a straight-flush toilet, which has a short pipe and strong water flow impact, making it more suitable for relocation scenarios. If the original toilet is a siphon-type, relocation may weaken the flushing force due to the lengthened pipe, necessitating an evaluation of whether to replace it. If insisting on using a siphon-type, consider pairing it with a high-pressure electric toilet, which enhances flushing effect through a booster pump.

  5. Special Case Handling

    • If the relocation distance exceeds 15 cm, the main drain pipe must be modified or the floor must be raised (usually by 5-8 cm) to maintain the slope, but this will sacrifice ceiling height and increase construction costs.
    • After relocation, an increase in pipe bends (such as adding 90-degree elbows) may reduce drainage efficiency. In this case, the length of the offset adapter can be shortened, the number of elbows reduced, or a pipe unclogging valve can be installed for regular maintenance.

According to renovation reports, 10 cm is considered the golden distance for relocation, with a low probability of blockages, but strict control of construction details is essential. If conditions permit, consult a professional plumber for an on-site assessment and develop an optimal plan based on the house structure (such as floor thickness and drain pipe location) to ensure smooth drainage and no leakage hazards after relocation.
