Toilet Bowl Repositioning Methods

Admin September 24, 2026

Toilet bowls can be repositioned, and the main methods include the offset flange method, floor elevation method, and re-drilling method. Details are as follows:

Offset Flange Method: This method is suitable for small-scale and short-distance toilet repositioning, typically with a repositioning distance ranging from 10 to 30 centimeters, usually not exceeding 40 centimeters. The size range of offset flanges is from 2cm to 3m. When using an offset flange, tiles should be installed in advance, and a slope of 1% to 3% should be reserved during construction to ensure smooth drainage. The depth of the offset flange is generally within the sand-ash layer, about 5 centimeters. During construction, the sand-ash should be cleaned thoroughly to prevent it from falling into the pipes. Additionally, when the hole of the offset flange is larger than the toilet's drainage hole, blockage is generally unlikely, but it may affect the flushing effect and increase the risk of blockage.

Floor Elevation Method: When the toilet needs to be repositioned over a large area and more than 10cm, the floor elevation method can be used. The specific operation involves adding new pipes on the original floor and transferring the original pipe opening to the desired repositioning location. Since new pipes need to be added and the pipe opening position needs to be changed, steps need to be built to accommodate these facilities. After that, the toilet is installed, and proper floor waterproofing is done. If the bathroom is of the sunken type, the renovation will be much more convenient because sunken bathrooms have more space for pipe laying and adjustment.

Re-drilling Method: This method involves re-arranging the toilet's drainage pipes so that the water pipes run along the wall. In this case, the toilet should use a rear-discharge or bottom-discharge type. The re-drilling method does not require the water pipes to be buried, reducing the likelihood of blockage during later use. However, before construction, it is necessary to consult with the downstairs neighbors in advance because re-drilling may affect their ceiling and other parts. Additionally, professional workers should be hired for the construction, and proper waterproofing measures must be taken during the process to prevent water leakage and avoid affecting the normal life of the downstairs neighbors.
