Tibet Anduo Container House
The container houses in Anduo, Tibet, are mainly of the foldable type, featuring wind and earthquake resistance, thermal insulation, and rapid construction capabilities, making them suitable for extreme alpine climates and emergency settlement scenarios.

I. Structural and Material Characteristics
Container houses used in the Tibet region are mostly constructed from high-strength steel. For example, the container panel houses donated by China Railway Construction have an interlocking structural design that makes double-story houses as stable as a rock, capable of withstanding earthquakes above magnitude 7 and typhoons of force 12. The outer steel layer provides wind pressure resistance, while the inner layer contains thermal insulation materials (such as polyurethane foam). Combined with a “cold bridge prevention + gutter structure” design, it effectively copes with the low-temperature environment of the plateau, offering better thermal insulation performance than ordinary tents. Some houses are also equipped with detachable sunshades and sunrooms, balancing natural lighting and cold protection needs.
II. Functions and Configurations
The interior of container houses is well-equipped. Taking the settlement point in Gaguo Village as an example, each house can accommodate 4 bunk beds, allowing 8 people to reside, and is furnished with heating appliances, bed linens, electric blankets, and other living facilities, with complete water and electricity supplies. The container houses supported by China Communications Construction Group also have reserved interfaces for air conditioning and heating equipment, capable of withstanding temperatures as low as minus 30 degrees Celsius. Additionally, the houses adopt a modular design, supporting multi-functional layouts, such as having a kitchen, storage room, and bathroom on the first floor, and a large dining hall兼 (and) activity training space on the second floor, maximizing space utilization.
III. Optimizations for the Alpine Environment
In response to the characteristics of the alpine climate, container houses incorporate several adaptive technologies in their design:
- Wind Resistance Design: The use of staggered combinations and interlocking structural techniques enhances the stability of the houses, preventing strong winds from lifting the roof or causing displacement.
- Thermal Insulation and Drainage: The combination of gutter structures and efficient drainage systems prevents leakage caused by melting snow; the outer layer materials are waterproof and leak-proof, adapting to rainy and snowy weather.
- Rapid Deployment: The foldable design allows the houses to be compressed and stacked, with 6.8-meter trucks capable of transporting 6-7 sets and 17-meter trucks capable of transporting 20 sets, significantly reducing transportation costs. On-site assembly takes only a few hours, meeting the needs of emergency settlement.
IV. Application Scenarios and Cases
Container houses are widely used in Tibet for earthquake disaster relief settlements, construction site camps, scenic area homestays, and other scenarios. For example, COSCO Shipping Development built the “Teachers' Home” on the snowy plateau, achieving maximum space utilization through modular combinations; China Communications Construction Group supported 950 container houses in Dingri County and Lazi County, providing warm winter accommodations for disaster-affected people; the “Hefei Home” foldable container houses built by the Hefei Emergency Association保障 (ensured) the living needs of nearly 200 people in Cuowa Village, Quluo Township.
