Three-Story Container House Design Drawing

Admin September 17, 2026

Currently, there are no directly available design drawings for three-story container houses, but relevant case studies and design considerations can be referenced for planning purposes.

Case Reference: Nantong COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry's factory area once assembled a three-story multi-purpose office building using 96 specially made housing containers. In this case, container manufacturing took 6 days, and on-site assembly took 5 days, resulting in a total construction period of just 11 days. This case demonstrates the high construction efficiency of container houses and the ability to quickly achieve multi-story structures through modular design. The core lies in using standardized container units to meet functional requirements through reasonable spatial combinations, while also shortening the construction period through prefabricated production.

Design Considerations:

  1. Requirement Alignment: Container house design should be centered around customer needs, clearly defining building dimensions, functional zoning (such as office, residential, or public spaces), and usage scenarios (such as temporary or permanent structures). For example, if designing a three-story office building, it is necessary to plan the number of rooms per floor, corridor layout, and staircase locations to ensure compliance with fire safety regulations and user convenience.
  2. Container Selection and Modification: Standard container sizes are 20 feet (6.058 meters long, 2.438 meters wide, 2.591 meters high) or 40 feet (12.192 meters long, 2.438 meters wide, 2.591 meters high). However, in actual design, containers are often cut, welded, or fitted with additional doors, windows, or partitions based on requirements. For three-story structures, container load-bearing capacity must be considered, typically by using reinforced containers or adding internal steel structural supports to ensure building stability.
  3. Production and Installation Period: Referencing the design case of a 3×6 container house, after design completion, the factory's material preparation and production period is approximately 5 days. On-site installation adopts a fully assembled approach, with about 100 container units installable in 3 days. For three-story structures, the construction period must be adjusted based on the number of containers. For example, the Nantong COSCO project used 96 containers with a total construction period of 11 days, allowing for the estimation of single-story container installation efficiency and overall coordination.

Precautions: Container house design must balance functionality and compliance, including structural safety, fire and moisture resistance, ventilation, and lighting. If used as permanent structures, they must also pass local building code approvals to ensure materials and construction meet standards.
