Three-Person Container House

Admin September 17, 2026

The situation of container houses for three people varies in different scenarios.

In the context of the Nagoya Asian Games, some members of the Chinese men's and women's basketball teams stayed in container houses accommodating three people per room, which were quite challenging in terms of living conditions. The external dimensions of these rooms were 12 meters in length and 2.4 meters in width, split in half to house three athletes, resulting in extremely cramped space. Inside, the single beds measured 1.95 meters in length and 0.9 meters in width, making it difficult for basketball players, who generally exceed two meters in height, to lie down without their ankles hanging off the end of the bed and to turn over easily. Although the organizing committee installed bed benches in each room to extend the bed length to over 2 meters, Zhang Ziyu, who stands at 2.23 meters, could still only barely straighten her legs and was unable to fully stretch out. Additionally, the rooms had poor sound insulation, basic hardware facilities, and shared a single simple bathroom. The entire prefabricated building was equipped with only one air conditioner, and the cooling solution provided by the event organizers was to "leave the door open to cool the room before going to bed," resulting in a poor living experience.

In the design scenario, there is a 3-bedroom container house design plan covering an area of 160 square meters, composed of four forty-foot containers. However, this plan was not specifically designed for three people. The house features staggered placement of integrated screen containers, creating front and rear corridors, with relatively well-defined functional areas, including a living room area, an open kitchen, a dining area, and a bathroom with a dry-wet separation structure. There is one bedroom at each end of the house, sharing a common bathroom with an independent shower. Additionally, there is an independent storage space next to the kitchen, providing a relatively high level of overall living comfort. However, the space utilization was not entirely optimized around accommodating three people.

Overall, container houses for three people exhibit significant differences in terms of space size, living comfort, and functional facilities depending on the usage scenario.
