Three-Dimensional Container House Design
Admin September 15, 2026
The design of three-dimensional container houses requires comprehensive consideration of factors such as structural type, spatial layout, thermal performance, connection nodes, surface corrosion protection, and personalized design.

Structural Type Selection:
- Welded integral box: It is welded into shape as a whole in the factory, with a direct load path. The roof load is transferred through the side wall columns to the bottom sill and then evenly distributed to the ground. This structure has strong resistance to deformation and is suitable for frequent lifting and moving.
- Bolt-connected assembled box: It uses standard panels connected by bolts. There are multiple connection nodes in the load path, and the tightness of each node directly affects the overall stability. When purchasing, check the wall thickness of the steel columns and bottom sills. Common specifications range from 1.5 mm to 3 mm. The thicker the wall thickness, the greater the load-bearing redundancy, but the self-weight also increases accordingly.
Spatial Layout Design:
- The spatial layout of container houses should be flexibly designed according to functional requirements. For example, a split-level design can be adopted to break the monotonous box-like image and create a richly layered three-dimensional space.
- The internal space can be laid out in combination with functional zoning. For example, the kitchen and bathroom can be compressed to one end of the box to form a wet area, using integrated bathroom technology for waterproof integration; the living and sleeping areas can achieve day-night functional switching through the variability of furniture.
Thermal Performance Optimization:
- Container houses need to adopt effective thermal performance compensation mechanisms, such as a three-layer structure: the outer layer is galvanized sheet to resist wind and sand erosion, the middle layer is filled with rock wool as the main insulation layer, and the inner layer uses PVC-coated steel sheet to reduce thermal radiation.
- Some designs also add an elevated layer at the bottom of the box to block the conduction of ground cold bridges and further reduce indoor temperature fluctuations.
Connection Nodes and Seismic Design:
- Connection nodes should use high-strength materials, such as wedge-shaped locks and high-strength bolts, to ensure a self-locking effect under horizontal shear forces and improve seismic performance.
- For areas with high seismic design intensity, special seismic design is required to ensure that the displacement is controlled within a safe range under rare earthquakes.
Surface Corrosion Protection:
- The surface coating of container houses should use materials with strong weather resistance, such as a combination of epoxy zinc-rich primer and polyurethane topcoat, to protect the base metal through the sacrificial anode principle and extend the service life.
Personalized and Creative Design:
- The design of container houses can incorporate elements such as glass curtain walls, wood-grain finishes, and irregular structures for use in brand displays, cultural and creative parks, high-end temporary offices, and other scenarios, balancing functionality and visual expression.
