The Best Way to Make a Mobile Toilet

Admin October 09, 2026

The best plan for making a mobile toilet recommends transforming a water storage tank into a mobile restroom, with clear steps and strong operability, suitable for DIY scenarios.

I. Basic Structure Construction

  1. Main Frame Production: Select a water storage tank of appropriate capacity (e.g., a 200L plastic tank), cut it in half along the longitudinal centerline, and retain one half as the basic frame. The cutting surface should be polished smooth to avoid scratches.
  2. Mobility and Support System: Install four universal wheels (with brake function) at the bottom of the tank to ensure flexible movement and stable fixation. Reinforce the upper side of the tank with wooden strips to form a frame about 1.8 meters high, facilitating the installation of toilet facilities.
  3. Wall and Door Frame: Open a hole (approximately 60cm x 180cm) on the side of the tank, install a door frame, and seal the gaps with sponge strips to prevent odor leakage. The walls are made of lightweight plastic soft panels (e.g., PVC panels), fixed to the frame with rivets, combining waterproofing with lightness.

II. Internal Facility Installation

  1. Toilet System: Choose a water-saving toilet or a simple squat toilet, and connect the drainage pipe to the sewage outlet at the bottom of the tank. If relocation is needed, adjustments should be made according to the type of house drainage:
    • For houses with interlayer drainage: Use a relocator (with a moving distance ≤ 40cm) or switch to a wall-mounted toilet to avoid damaging the original drainage pipe.
    • For houses with sunken drainage: The pipeline can be freely adjusted, but ensure a drainage slope ≥ 2% (i.e., a drop of 2cm per meter) to prevent blockage.
  2. Water Storage and Sewage Disposal: Place the other half of the water storage tank on top of the tank as a water tank, and install a float valve to control the water level. The sewage tank should be set up independently and cleaned regularly to avoid cross-contamination.
  3. Ventilation and Lighting: Reserve a ventilation opening at the top and install a small exhaust fan; use LED light strips for internal lighting, which are energy-saving and provide sufficient brightness.

III. Upgrade Plan (Solar Water Storage Tank Mobile Restroom)

Add a solar system to the basic structure:

  1. Solar Panel Installation: Lay single-crystal silicon solar panels (with a power of about 100W) on the roof, and connect them to a storage battery (12V 50Ah) to store electrical energy.
  2. Electrical Appliance Adaptation: Convert the exhaust fan and lighting to DC-driven, directly powered by the storage battery, enabling off-grid use.
  3. Hot Water Supply (Optional): Install solar heating tubes in the water storage tank, and use a circulation pump to deliver hot water to the showerhead, enhancing user comfort.

IV. Precautions

  1. Drainage Type Confirmation: Before renovation, clarify the type of house drainage (interlayer drainage or sunken drainage) to avoid damaging the building's drainage logic.
  2. Material Selection: Prioritize the use of waterproof and corrosion-resistant materials (e.g., PVC panels, stainless steel fittings) to extend service life.
  3. Compliance Check: If used in public places, comply with local health and fire safety standards to avoid legal risks.

This plan combines practicality and creativity, allowing flexible adjustment of functional modules according to needs, suitable for family, camping, or temporary event scenarios.
