How to Decorate a Prefabricated House on the Terrace

Admin September 18, 2026

When decorating a prefabricated house on the terrace, you can refer to the following steps, which should balance practicality and safety, and avoid excessive renovations that may affect fire safety and neighborly relations:

1. Waterproofing: Basic Protection As an outdoor space, waterproofing is the primary concern for terraces. It is recommended to use torch-applied membrane waterproofing for comprehensive coverage, ensuring tight seals at joints with walls, floor drains, etc. Before construction, clean the base layer to ensure a dry and flat surface. The membrane overlap width should be no less than 10cm, and a continuous waterproof layer should be formed through hot-melt welding. After completion, conduct a 48-hour closed-water test to confirm no leakage before proceeding to the next step.

2. Masonry Construction: Functional Zoning If planning a leisure garden, use red bricks to build flower beds with a recommended height of 30-50cm, reserving a drainage slope inside (≥2%). Lay drainage boards + geotextile at the bottom of the flower beds to prevent soil from clogging the drainage pipes; install root-resistant waterproof layers (such as copper foil or HDPE film) on the sides to prevent plant roots from penetrating the waterproof layer. Lay sand-like matte anti-slip cement boards on the ground with a thickness of about 3-5cm, which not only meet drainage needs but also enhance walking safety.

3. Flooring Materials: Durability First It is recommended to use PVC anti-corrosion wooden flooring, which has the following advantages:

  • Corrosion resistance: The PVC coating can resist rain and ultraviolet radiation;
  • Wind resistance and fixation: Connected to the base layer with clips or screws, it is not easily displaced even in strong winds on the rooftop;
  • Easy maintenance: Surface stains can be washed away with clean water without special maintenance. If the budget is limited, outdoor tiles can also be chosen, but ensure a reasonable slope (≥1.5%) to avoid water accumulation.

4. Safety and Convenience Facilities

  • Fall prevention measures: Make movable flower boxes to move potted plants indoors during strong winds and heavy rain; install metal guardrails (height ≥1.1m) at the edges of flower beds to prevent children from climbing.
  • Rustic ambiance: Set up bamboo or wooden fences along the perimeter of the flower beds, with a height controlled at 40-60cm, which is both aesthetically pleasing and avoids obstructing the view.
  • Practical functions: Build a sink near the balcony door, pre-embed hot and cold water pipes, choose quartz stone or tiles for the countertop, and reserve storage space below for convenient storage of gardening tools.

Precautions:

  • Notify the property management before renovation to confirm the load-bearing capacity of the terrace and the scope of renovation;
  • Avoid installing large fixed facilities (such as glass houses) on the terrace to prevent obstructing fire escape routes;
  • Electrical wiring should be protected with conduits and waterproof sockets should be installed to ensure electrical safety.
