Temple of Heaven Portable Toilets
The configuration of portable toilets at the Temple of Heaven focuses on functionality and landscape harmony, covering three scenarios: temporary additions, substitutions during renovation periods, and daily services. The specific features are as follows:

I. Portable Toilet Configuration During Fixed Public Toilet Renovations
When the Dongcheng District Environmental Sanitation Service Center upgraded 35 old public toilets around the Temple of Heaven, to minimize the impact of construction on visitors, flushable portable toilets were deployed in the renovation areas as temporary substitutes. These toilets feature modular design, enabling quick and easy installation with outstanding environmental performance. They are equipped with basic sanitary facilities (such as squat toilets, sit toilets, and sinks) and are fitted with solar-powered lighting to ensure safety during nighttime use. During the renovation period, dedicated personnel are responsible for cleaning and maintaining the portable toilets to ensure hygiene standards match those of fixed public toilets.
II. Dynamic Addition of Portable Toilets for Large Events and Daily Scenarios
During holidays or large events, portable toilets are dynamically added at the entrances and main sightseeing routes of the Temple of Heaven to handle peak visitor flows. These toilets also utilize modular structures for rapid deployment and include facilities such as independent squat/sit toilets, sinks, and waste tanks. Some are equipped with barrier-free access and dedicated stalls to meet the needs of special groups. During daily operations, dedicated personnel conduct regular inspections to ensure the portable toilets are odor-free and stain-free, with sanitary supplies replenished regularly.
III. Design for Historical Landscape Harmony
As a World Heritage Site, the Temple of Heaven emphasizes harmony between the exterior design of its portable toilets and the overall style of the scenic area. For example, elements such as gray bricks, blue tiles, and traditional eaves are used to reduce the visual impact of modern facilities on the historical landscape. The interior layout balances practicality and aesthetics, improving space utilization through reasonable zoning while avoiding excessive decoration that could affect functionality.
IV. Service Optimization and Inquiry Methods
For the elderly and those with mobility issues, the Temple of Heaven provides "one-on-one" toilet guidance services, with staff assisting in the use of portable or fixed public toilets. Visitors can use the "Beijing Public Toilet Finder" app to check the locations, availability, and facilities of nearby portable toilets in real time. The app supports mobile phone location-based navigation, making it easy to find available toilets quickly.
Summary: Through modular design, dynamic additions, and landscape-harmonious design, the portable toilets at the Temple of Heaven achieve a balance between functionality and aesthetics. Combined with dedicated cleaning, barrier-free services, and intelligent inquiry systems, they comprehensively enhance the toilet experience for visitors.
