Container Houses in Wangxiuzhen, Taicang

Admin September 17, 2026

There was a situation in Wangxiuzhen, Taicang, where containers were modified into houses for residential purposes, but such actions have been rectified and removed by law enforcement agencies.

Illegal Construction Situation

In Menghe Village, Wangxiuzhen, Taicang, there were instances where individuals used discarded containers to modify them into houses for living. These modified container houses were randomly placed on the land without proper planning and approval processes, constituting typical illegal construction behavior. This haphazard placement severely disrupted the rational utilization of land and affected the overall planning and construction layout of the area.

Problems Arising

  • Sanitation Issues: Due to the lack of effective management, garbage often accumulates and sewage flows around these container houses. Residents may not have proper garbage disposal and sewage discharge facilities, leading to the indiscriminate disposal of household waste and uncontrolled flow of sewage. This not only affects the surrounding environmental hygiene but also easily breeds various bacteria and viruses, posing a threat to the health of residents.
  • Public Security Issues: The areas with randomly erected container houses have complex personnel flows and lack effective monitoring and management measures. This provides opportunities for lawbreakers, making it prone to theft, robbery, and other public security incidents, posing a hidden danger to the life and property safety of local residents.
  • Fire Safety Issues: Container houses are mostly made of metal, with relatively narrow internal spaces and poor ventilation. During residence, the use of open flames or high-power electrical appliances can easily trigger fires. Moreover, due to the lack of necessary fire protection facilities and evacuation routes, the consequences of a fire would be unimaginable.

Rectification Actions

In response to the aforementioned issues in Menghe Village, the law enforcement bureau, in conjunction with relevant departments, launched a rectification campaign. Illegal container houses were removed, and the land was restored to its original state. This action effectively eliminated safety hazards, maintained the local land utilization order and social stability. At the same time, it also sent a clear signal to society that the government will resolutely crack down on and rectify illegal construction behaviors.
