Stainless Steel Container Renovated House

Admin September 17, 2026

It is feasible to renovate houses using stainless steel containers, and there are already successful cases, with the "Living Building" project by Broad Group being a typical example.

Core Materials and Structure:
The "Living Building" uses thick-walled stainless steel profiles and the self-developed "stainless steel core panel" as its core materials. Stainless steel offers advantages such as corrosion resistance, high strength, and long lifespan, making it particularly suitable for humid or rainy regions and significantly reducing long-term maintenance costs. Its "stainless steel core panel" forms a honeycomb structure through a special process, combining lightweight properties with high load-bearing capacity, providing stable structural support for the building.

Construction Technology and Efficiency:
The project adopts factory-based prefabricated construction technology, with building modules standardized to the size of 40-foot containers for easy transportation. On-site installation is carried out using bolt connections, eliminating the need for welding or concrete pouring, and enabling a daily construction speed of up to 3 floors, greatly shortening the project timeline. For example, the 11-story residential building "Home No. 1," completed in 2021, had its main structure erected in just 28 hours, demonstrating the efficiency of the technology.

Mobility and Reusability:
The modules are fixed with bolts, allowing for complete disassembly and relocation for reassembly elsewhere. This feature enables the building to be flexibly moved according to needs, adapting to scenarios such as temporary housing, emergency shelter, or tourist resorts, while reducing resource waste and aligning with green building principles.

Application Cases and Validation:
The feasibility of the "Living Building" technology has been validated through actual projects. In addition to "Home No. 1," the 15-story residential project exported to the UAE in 2025 further demonstrated its assembly capabilities in complex overseas environments (such as high temperatures and sandstorms), providing a reference for global promotion.

Industry Comparison and Limitations:
Currently, companies such as Suzhou Zhongnan Steel Structure Co., Ltd. and CIMC Modular Building Investment Co., Ltd. are involved in the container housing sector but primarily use traditional steel or composite materials, without explicitly mentioning the application of stainless steel. While the initial cost of stainless steel container houses may be higher than that of ordinary containers, their long-term durability and low maintenance requirements can balance the cost difference, making them suitable for scenarios requiring higher building lifespans.
