Moving from Squat Toilet to Sitting Toilet
Admin October 11, 2026
If you need to move from a squat toilet to a sitting toilet, a short-distance move can use a toilet offset connector, while a long-distance move requires re-planning the plumbing. The renovation should be carried out step by step with attention to detail.

Short-Distance Moving Solution: Using a Toilet Offset Connector
If the distance to move the toilet is short (10-30 centimeters, not exceeding 40 centimeters), a toilet offset connector can be used to adjust the position. The offset connector achieves positional offset by extending the drainage pipe, offering the advantages of minimal modification and low cost, suitable for small-scale adjustments. However, note the following:
- Impact on flushing performance: The offset connector increases pipe bends, which may reduce drainage speed, leading to incomplete flushing or residual waste.
- Risk of blockage: After the pipe length is increased, improper use (such as large waste or excessive toilet paper) can easily cause blockages, requiring regular unclogging.
- Slope requirements: During construction, a 1%-3% slope should be reserved to ensure smooth drainage and prevent water accumulation or odors.
Long-Distance Moving Solution: Re-planning the Plumbing
If the moving distance exceeds 40 centimeters, the drainage pipe needs to be re-laid, following these steps:
- Remove the old squat toilet: Clean the original squat toilet and surrounding cement base to expose the main drainage pipe.
- Install a floor drain: Install a floor drain near the new toilet position, choosing a model with a water trap to prevent sewer odors.
- Pipe modification: Re-lay the drainage pipe according to the new position, ensuring the slope meets the standard (1%-3%) and connecting it to the main drain. If crossing the floor slab, proper waterproofing should be done in advance.
- Backfilling and waterproofing: Backfill the gaps around the pipe with cement or lightweight materials and apply waterproof coating on the surface to prevent leakage.
- Tiling and installation: After leveling the floor, lay tiles and finally install the toilet, connecting the water inlet and outlet pipes.
Renovation Precautions
- Waterproofing test: After renovation, a 48-hour closed water test should be conducted to confirm no leakage before use.
- Toilet selection: Match the pipe design according to the drainage method (siphon or straight flush), with siphon requiring a higher slope.
- Professional construction: Pipe modification involves structural safety, so it is recommended to be carried out by a licensed plumber to avoid hidden dangers caused by unauthorized modifications.
