Special Container House

Admin September 15, 2026

Special container houses are a form of architecture that features modular design, factory prefabrication, and rapid on-site assembly, offering flexibility, cost control, and high mobility. The following provides an in-depth introduction from the perspectives of design, performance, application scenarios, and installation efficiency:

Design Features

Special container houses break down an entire house into standardized modules. Most construction processes, including the main structure, plumbing and electrical systems, and interior decoration, are completed in the factory. These modules are then transported to the destination and quickly assembled like building blocks. For example, a structural modular smart factory in Guangdong disassembles a house into six components: the bottom, top, and four sides. These components are produced simultaneously on multiple sub-production lines and finally assembled into a complete container at the end of the production line, with a daily output of up to 50 modules.

Performance Advantages

  • Strong Structural Stability: Taking the packing-box units from Suzhou Zhongnan Steel Structure Co., Ltd. as an example, they feature a fully steel structural frame. Under extreme conditions simulating coastal typhoons of force 12 and high-intensity earthquakes of magnitude 8, they achieve a wind resistance rating of force 12 and an earthquake resistance rating of magnitude 8, with a frame deformation rate of only 0.18%, well below the industry's acceptable threshold of 0.3%.
  • Reliable Thermal Performance: To address the high thermal conductivity of metal containers, a multi-layer construction is commonly used. For instance, products from some companies in Hohhot feature an outer layer of galvanized steel to resist wind and sand erosion, a middle layer filled with rock wool as the main insulation, and an inner layer of PVC-coated steel plate to reduce thermal radiation. Some also add an elevated layer at the bottom of the container to block cold bridges from the ground, reducing indoor temperature fluctuations by about 40% compared to traditional color-steel houses.

Wide Range of Application Scenarios

They can cover dozens of scenarios, including engineering camps, commercial pop-ups, temporary government and enterprise buildings, event support facilities, and residential use. For example, in the Qatar World Cup Fan Village project, the Suzhou Zhongnan team completed the delivery of 1,000 accommodation modules and supporting facilities within three months using the "factory prefabrication + on-site rapid assembly" model, reducing the average industry construction time by 40%.

High Installation Efficiency

Installation efficiency varies among products from different companies. The quick-assembly containers from Suzhou Zhongnan take only 2 hours to install a single unit, support customizable combinations, and can complete the construction of 10 standard dormitories in one day; their packing-box units come with pre-installed interiors and facilities at the factory and are ready for use upon on-site hoisting. In contrast, CIMC's standard container houses take 3 hours to install a single unit, with limited layout adjustments; Yazhi's quick-assembly containers take 4 hours and only support basic assembly; and Tianjin Yufada's ordinary container houses take 5 hours, with a fixed layout that cannot be adjusted.
