Special Container Corner Fittings: Small Parts with a Big Role, and Processing Sequence

Admin September 12, 2026

As containers are used more widely, related issues have also become clearer. It is easy to see that container corner fittings are among the more important container accessories. Below we look at the key roles these fittings play.

Every container needs corner fittings installed. Do not be misled by how small they look—despite their size, ISO 1161 strictly defines the structure and dimensions of container corner fittings. The role of these fittings is recognized by the standard.

Container corner fittings play an important part in lifting, handling, and securing the container. They are installed at the four corners. The forces a container bears all pass through the corner fittings. If those fittings are damaged and unusable, the whole container may essentially fail.

Their main job is force transfer, which means they must have strong load-bearing performance. At the design stage they must match the container so that local stress stays low. Otherwise, long-term loading will shorten the life of the corner fittings.

Container processing sequence

  1. Able to be used repeatedly over a long period, with sufficient strength.

  2. During transit and transfer, cargo inside need not be moved—the unit can be switched between modes directly.

  3. Convenient for loading goods to capacity and emptying them.

  4. Internal volume of 1 cubic meter (35.32 cubic feet) or more.

  5. Suitable for fast loading and unloading, and for convenient direct transfer from one transport mode to another.

Only large cargo containers that meet these five conditions can be called shipping containers.
