Small Family Portable Toilet Design
Admin October 12, 2026
The following plans can be referred to for the design of small family portable toilets, combining practicality and space optimization principles for planning:

I. Basic Structure Production Plans
- Water Storage Bucket Modification Method: Horizontally cut a large water storage bucket in half and retain the upper part as the main structure. Weld a metal frame at the bottom and install four universal wheels to ensure mobility stability. Reinforce the edges internally with wooden strips, install a lightweight door frame (such as aluminum alloy) after creating an entrance, and reserve an inspection port at the top for easy maintenance of the piping system later.
- Water Storage Tank Combination Method: Select discarded water storage tanks as the core containers and weld universal wheels with locking functions at the bottom. Cut openings at the top of the tank for toilet installation, shower area, and sink, lay a waterproof layer (such as PVC film) inside and install a drainage slope. Wrap insulation materials (such as polystyrene boards) externally to enhance comfort during winter use.
II. Functional Module Integration Design
- Water Supply and Drainage System:
- Use PVC pipes for drainage. The floor drain in the shower area should be equipped with an odor-proof core. The toilet drainage pipe should be connected to a septic tank or directly to the municipal sewage pipe (in compliance with local regulations).
- The water inlet pipe is divided into two routes: one is connected to the toilet water tank, and the other is diverted to the shower head and sink through a three-way valve. It is recommended to install a water-saving booster pump.
- Space Utilization Optimization:
- Vertical Storage: Install pegboard hooks on the walls to hang cleaning tools, towels, etc. Embed niches in the shower area walls, with a recommended depth of 15-20 cm, for storing bathing supplies.
- Door Modification: Replace traditional hinged doors with folding or sliding doors to reduce the space occupied by door opening. Install magnetic hooks on the back of the door to hang clothes or garbage bags.
- Dry-Wet Separation Plan:
- Separate the shower area and the toilet area with transparent acrylic panels, leaving a 10 cm gap at the bottom for drainage. Alternatively, use a waterproof shower curtain + curved rod design, which is more cost-effective and flexible.
- Install the shower head directly opposite the toilet. Close the toilet lid tightly when taking a shower to prevent water from splashing into the toilet. Connect the water outlet below the shower head to the sink faucet with a hose to achieve multi-purpose use of water.
III. Small Apartment Layout Adaptation Plans
- 2-3㎡ Rectangular Bathroom: Adopt a traditional and practical layout, with the sink (with a storage mirror cabinet), toilet, and shower area in sequence from the entrance. Install sliding doors to save space.
- 1.5-2.5㎡ Square Bathroom: Embed open shelves in the walls for storage. Separate the shower area with a translucent waterproof shower curtain + curved rod. Install a narrow shelf on the side of the toilet.
- 3-4㎡ Narrow Bathroom: Move the bathroom cabinet out to the corridor to achieve a three-way separation of washing, toileting, and showering inside. Separate the toilet and the shower area with a glass partition to improve lighting.
IV. Precautions
- Regularly clean the septic tank of the portable toilet (if a direct-discharge design is adopted) to avoid odor generation.
- Install waterproof sockets for electrical wiring. For electrical appliances in the shower area (such as hair dryers), it is recommended to use waterproof products with an IPX4 rating or above.
- Check the anti-freezing measures for water pipes before use in winter. Wrap them with insulation cotton or use electric tracing heating tapes.
