Small Double-Decker Container House

Admin September 15, 2026

The small double-decker container house is a modular building constructed by combining two layers of standard container units. It features a sturdy structure, high space utilization, and flexible mobility, making it suitable for various scenarios such as commercial, office, and residential use.

I. Structural and Material Characteristics

The small double-decker container house uses a thickened container unit as its main structure, with a full steel frame. It can withstand wind speeds of up to 12 levels and meets national earthquake resistance standards, enabling it to cope with extreme weather and complex environments. The interior of the container is filled with thermal insulation rock wool and paired with double-glazed tempered glass, effectively addressing issues of heat and poor sound insulation in traditional containers, enhancing long-term comfort. Additionally, the double-decker design expands vertical space, doubling the usable area within a limited footprint. For example, a 20-foot double-wing expansion container can provide up to 36㎡ of indoor space when unfolded, meeting multifunctional needs such as residential and storage purposes.

II. Application Scenarios and Advantages

  1. Commercial Scenarios: Double-decker container houses can be customized with coatings, unique shapes, and ambient lighting to create popular commercial districts, suitable for businesses such as coffee shops, bubble tea stores, and cultural and creative shops. Their modular assembly reduces construction time to one-third of that of traditional buildings and supports reuse and relocation, lowering long-term operating costs.
  2. Office and Residential Scenarios: Internally, they can be planned as two-bedroom apartments, offices, or leisure stations, achieving functional zoning through reasonable layouts. For example, in a Chilean project, double-decker containers were designed as residences, equipped with independent bathrooms and kitchens, demonstrating the flexibility of modular buildings in overseas projects.
  3. Temporary and Emergency Scenarios: In scenarios such as construction camps and night market districts, double-decker container houses can be quickly erected as worker dormitories or temporary office areas. They support over 15 disassemblies and reassemblies with no significant decrease in structural stability, and the cost per use is only one-third of that of a new product.

III. Safety and Fire Protection Regulations

Strict adherence to fire safety standards is required: Filling materials should be Class A fire-resistant materials such as rock wool boards and fireproof cotton, avoiding the use of flammable sandwich panels like polystyrene and polyurethane foam. Electrical wiring should be protected with sleeves, and switch boxes should be metal-galvanized and surface-mounted. Containers should be spaced at least 6 meters apart and equipped with simple fire extinguishing equipment to reduce fire risks.
