Small Container Houses
Admin September 10, 2026
The weight of a small container house varies significantly by size, materials, and configuration. A common range is 1.35-3 tons; some larger or custom models can weigh more.

1. Typical weight ranges by size
- 3 m × 6 m container house: A fairly common mid-to-small size, usually weighing 2-3 tons. The structure often uses a standard container frame, mainly steel, and the interior may include basic insulation or simple finishes—so weight depends heavily on the fit-out.
- 6055 mm × 2990 mm × 2896 mm foldable (packable) container house: Taking Tengfei packable container houses as an example, modular design keeps weight relatively light—about 1350 kg (1.35 tons). The upside is easier transport and fast assembly, which suits temporary or mobile needs.
- 20 ft and 40 ft standard container houses: A 20 ft unit (about 14.4 m²) weighs about 153-174 kg per square meter, or roughly 2.2-2.5 tons total. A 40 ft unit (about 28.8 m²) weighs about 122-139 kg per square meter, or roughly 3.5-4 tons total. Larger footprints need stronger structure, so weight rises markedly with area.
2. Core factors that affect weight
- Material differences: Steel is the main structural material; thickness and strength drive weight. High-strength steel or thicker walls add substantial mass.
- Configuration complexity: Interior finishes (flooring, insulation, electrical systems) and extras (air conditioning, solar panels) add weight. Heavy equipment or upscale finishes can push a unit beyond the standard range.
- Design type: Packable container houses are optimized for shipping and often use lightweight design (e.g., aluminum frames) to cut weight; fixed or seismic-rated units may gain weight from reinforced structure.
3. Weight references for real use
For a precise estimate, you need exact size, material specs, and a configuration list. For example, a 3 m × 6 m container house with 2 mm steel plate and no extra finishes may weigh close to 2 tons; with double-layer insulation and heavy doors and windows, it may exceed 3 tons. Ask your supplier for detailed parameters based on your actual needs.
