Small Container House Size Specifications

Admin September 16, 2026

The size specifications of small container houses vary depending on their type and purpose. Common specifications are as follows:

I. Standard Container House Sizes Standard container houses are modified based on maritime shipping containers. Common specifications include:

  1. 20-foot standard container (20GP): The external dimensions are approximately 6.058 meters in length, 2.438 meters in width, and 2.591 meters in height; the internal dimensions are approximately 5.867 meters in length, 2.33 meters in width, and 2.35 meters in height. These container houses are usually used for single-person offices, dormitories, or shops. They have a compact space and are suitable for small-scale living or office needs.
  2. 40-foot standard container (40GP): The external dimensions are approximately 12.192 meters in length, 2.438 meters in width, and 2.591 meters in height; the internal dimensions are approximately 11.998 meters in length, 2.33 meters in width, and 2.35 meters in height. These container houses have a relatively large space and can be divided into multi-functional areas, suitable for multi-person dormitories or temporary exhibition halls.
  3. 40-foot high-cube container (40HQ): The external dimensions are approximately 12.192 meters in length, 2.438 meters in width, and 2.896 meters in height; the internal dimensions are approximately 11.998 meters in length, 2.33 meters in width, and 2.655 meters in height. These container houses have a relatively high ceiling height and are suitable for scenarios that require high vertical space utilization, such as temporary housing or exhibition halls.

II. Non-standard Customized Container House Sizes In addition to standard specifications, container houses can be customized according to needs. Common sizes include:

  1. Length direction: They can be customized to 3 meters, 6 meters, 8 meters, 9 meters, 12 meters, etc. For example, the 3-meter × 6-meter specification is often used for on-site living or office space.
  2. Width direction: Options include 2.5 meters, 2.55 meters, 3 meters, 4 meters, etc. Adjusting the width can optimize the internal space layout.
  3. Height direction: Options include 2.6 meters, 2.7 meters, 2.8 meters, 2.9 meters, etc. Adjusting the height can meet different ceiling height requirements.

III. Special-purpose Container House Sizes For specific scenarios, the sizes of container houses may be further optimized. For example, the container temporary houses used in the Nagoya Asian Games had single beds measuring 1.95 meters in length and 0.9 meters in width, and the aisles in the rooms were only wide enough for sideways passage, with extremely compact space. Such designs are usually used for temporary, high-density accommodation scenarios, but with relatively low comfort.
