Construction Methods for Small Container Houses

Admin September 16, 2026

The construction methods for small container houses mainly include four steps: foundation treatment, structural modification, assembly and erection, and thermal insulation treatment.

Foundation Treatment: This is the first step in constructing a small container house. Several containers need to be staggered and placed to ensure they are firmly fixed on the foundation. Staggered placement helps enhance the overall structural stability, preventing tilting or collapse due to unidirectional force. After placement, the containers should be welded and reinforced to firmly connect them into a single unit, ensuring the stability of the entire structure.

Structural Modification: Based on design requirements, the containers that have undergone foundation treatment should be internally modified. Additional crossbeams can be added inside to enhance the structural load-bearing capacity. At the same time, depending on actual needs, the bottom and one side can be cut and removed to facilitate the installation of doors and windows or other functional modifications. If the house consists of two floors, the first floor can be constructed by butting two containers together, with horizontal steel beams added to the bottom of the containers as load-bearing beams and supports to ensure the stability of the upper structure. The top should be bonded and reinforced with super-strong adhesive to fill the gaps in the middle, preventing rain leakage and water seepage. To ensure bonding effectiveness, the adhesive should be applied in three layers repeatedly to form a tight waterproof layer.

Assembly and Erection: Based on the pre-fabricated positions of windows and doors by the manufacturer, assembly and erection can be carried out. This process is similar to building with blocks, stacking and placing the containers layer by layer. Due to the standardized design of containers, the assembly process is relatively simple and fast, taking as little as three to five days or as long as a week to complete.

Thermal Insulation Treatment: Considering that container houses may be cold in winter, thermal insulation materials should be added to the exterior walls. Typically, 10cm-thick polyurethane insulation panels (extra-hard foam boards) are chosen, which not only have good thermal insulation properties but also possess fire-resistant properties. During the manufacturing process, the manufacturer adds fire-resistant raw materials to further enhance the fire safety of the house.
