Sleeping in a Container House During Rain

Admin September 15, 2026

Sleeping in a container house during rain can lead to issues such as noise disturbance and poor living experience, and there are also safety hazards under extreme weather conditions.

Severe Noise Disturbance Affects Sleep Quality

The roofs of container houses are usually made of metal and lack effective sound insulation and noise reduction designs. When it rains, raindrops directly strike the iron roof, generating significant noise. According to feedback from Asian Games volunteers, it is extremely noisy in the container area during rain, making it almost impossible to rest well. This noise is particularly noticeable at night, seriously affecting people's sleep quality, leading to difficulties in falling asleep or sleep interruptions.

Insufficient Protection Against Extreme Weather Poses Safety Risks

As temporary accommodation facilities, the physical properties of container houses limit their ability to withstand extreme weather. Compared to permanent buildings, container houses lack mature drainage systems, waterproof structures, and emergency evacuation routes. During extreme weather such as heavy rain, container houses may experience issues like water leakage and water accumulation, and there is even a risk of collapse. For example, during the Nagoya Asian Games, about 400 athletes and staff were asked to evacuate from container houses and move to safe areas due to heavy rain.

Poor Living Experience and Lack of Comfort

In addition to noise and safety hazards, the living experience in container houses is also relatively poor. Their space is relatively narrow, and the ceiling height is low, giving a sense of oppression. Moreover, the ventilation and lighting conditions in container houses may not be as good as those in permanent buildings, resulting in poor indoor air quality and insufficient light. During the Nagoya Asian Games, athletes reported that the beds in container houses were too short for tall players, the aisle between double beds could only be passed sideways, and the ceiling height was also oppressive.

Improvement Measures and Suggestions

To enhance the living experience in container houses during rain, the following measures can be taken: Lay sound insulation materials on the roof, such as sponges or turf, to reduce the noise generated by raindrop strikes; Strengthen the design of the drainage system to ensure that rainwater can be quickly drained and avoid water accumulation; Increase waterproof structures to prevent rainwater from seeping into the interior; Improve emergency evacuation routes to ensure that people can quickly evacuate under extreme weather conditions.
