What is the Size of Container House Construction

Admin September 17, 2026

The sizes of container house constructions vary, with the specific dimensions depending on their type and purpose. Here is some information on the sizes of common container house constructions:

I. Sizes Based on International Shipping Container Standards
The International Shipping Container Standard (ISO 668) is an important basis for the size design of container house constructions, mainly including the following three standard sizes:

  1. 20-foot Standard Container (20GP): The external dimensions are 6.058 meters (length) × 2.438 meters (width) × 2.591 meters (height), and the internal usable dimensions are 5.898 meters × 2.352 meters × 2.393 meters, with a volume of approximately 33 cubic meters. This size is suitable for single occupants or small families to live in, and can also be used as a small office or shop.
  2. 40-foot Standard Container (40GP): The external dimensions are 12.192 meters × 2.438 meters × 2.591 meters, and the internal usable dimensions are 12.032 meters × 2.352 meters × 2.393 meters, with a volume of approximately 67 cubic meters. Its space is twice that of a 20-foot container, suitable for multiple occupants to live in or as a medium-sized office space.
  3. 40-foot High Cube Container (40HC/HQ): The external dimensions are 12.192 meters × 2.438 meters × 2.896 meters, and the internal usable dimensions are 12.032 meters × 2.352 meters × 2.698 meters, with a volume of approximately 76 cubic meters. Compared with a 40-foot standard container, the high cube increases the vertical space, suitable for scenarios that require higher ceiling heights, such as exhibition halls or warehouses.

II. Non-standard but Commonly Used Sizes
In addition to international standard sizes, there are also non-standard container houses designed according to actual needs:

  1. 10-foot Mini Container: The external dimensions are 3.048 meters × 2.438 meters × 2.591 meters, with an indoor area of approximately 7 square meters. This small container is often used as a study, workshop, or equipment room, suitable for scenarios with limited space but requiring an independent functional area.
  2. 30-foot Container Panel House: The external dimensions are approximately 9.144 meters (length) × 2.438 meters (width) × 2.591 meters (height), between the sizes of 20-foot and 40-foot containers. Its space is moderate, suitable for occasions that require a certain degree of flexibility but do not want to be too large, such as temporary dormitories or small shops.
  3. Common Standard Single-container Size on Construction Sites: The length is 6 meters, the width is 3 meters, and the height is generally between 2.7 and 2.8 meters, with an area of approximately 18 square meters. This size is relatively common on construction sites and can be used as a temporary office, conference room, or rest area.
  4. Small Container House: The dimensions are 3 meters × 3 meters, with an area of approximately 9 square meters. Its compact design makes it often used as a guard room, temporary warehouse, or small sales kiosk.
  5. Large Container House: The dimensions are 7 meters × 3 meters, generally used for two-story拼接 (spliced) houses or office areas with corridors. This design expands the usable space through splicing, suitable for scenarios that require a larger area.
