Production Process of Single-Person Portable Toilet

Admin October 05, 2026

The production process of a single-person portable toilet can be divided into two plans based on design concepts: the water storage barrel modification type and the water storage tank stacking type. The specific steps are as follows:

Plan 1: Water Storage Barrel Modification Type

  1. Basic Structure Construction Select a large water storage barrel and split it in half lengthwise along the middle, retaining one half as the main structure. Install universal wheels at the four corners of the wooden board to ensure mobility. The wooden board should be made of a waterproof material (such as rot-resistant wood) to prevent decay from prolonged exposure to moisture.

  2. Wall and Roof Installation Fix wooden strips along the upper edge of the barrel to increase the overall height to about 2 meters, meeting standing requirements. Install a door frame at the side opening, and attach sponge strips along the edges of the door frame to enhance sealing and prevent odor leakage. Embed transparent or semi-transparent plastic soft panels as walls to ensure privacy while providing lighting. Invert the upper half of the water storage barrel as the roof, and drill a hole at the top to install a vent (such as a small exhaust fan) to avoid stuffiness inside.

  3. Functional System Installation

    • Drainage System: Drill a hole at the bottom to install a drain pipe, connecting it to an external sewage barrel or directly to the sewer to form a floor drain structure. Drill a hole on the side to connect a direct interface for connecting the toilet tank or shower.
    • Water Storage Device: Place a plastic barrel on top as a water storage device, and connect it via a water pipe to a bath heater (optional) and the toilet tank. Use a three-way interface to connect the shower and the toilet tank for multi-purpose water use.
    • Handwashing Device: Extend the drain pipe to the doorway as the inlet pipe for the handwashing basin, and drill a hole in the door to install a faucet for convenience of use.
  4. Detail Refinement Use foam strips to splice honeycomb wooden boards to make the door, reducing weight while ensuring strength. Apply waterproof paint to the surface of the wooden strips to enhance aesthetics and durability. Fix the toilet base with glass glue to prevent sliding, and lay anti-slip mats around it to enhance safety.

Plan 2: Water Storage Tank Stacking Type

  1. Mobile Frame Construction Fix universal wheels at the four corners of a plastic pallet, choosing a pallet with strong load-bearing capacity (such as an industrial-grade plastic pallet). Place recycled water storage tanks (such as discarded oil drums or water tanks), ensuring the tanks are undamaged.

  2. Tank Processing Cut the water storage tanks along the top marking line to remove the tops and form open tanks. Stack two tanks and fix the connection points with self-tapping screws to ensure structural stability.

  3. Opening and Drainage System

    • Cut out a rectangular doorway 180 centimeters high and 50 centimeters wide for easy access.
    • Drill a hole in the internal floor to install an elbow water pipe, seal the gaps, and cut off the excess part to prevent water leakage.
    • Align the toilet with the drain and fix it with glue around it to ensure smooth drainage.
  4. Handwashing Device Installation Fix the water pipe and faucet at the wall clips, connect the pipe cap to the water pipe and drill a hole, apply glass glue, and fix a stainless steel basin as the handwashing basin. A water storage barrel can be placed below the handwashing basin for wastewater recycling.

  5. Functional Expansion Connect the toilet tank to the shower hose and install a spray-type showerhead to enhance comfort of use. Install a toilet seat and a door handle, and finally fix a wooden door to ensure privacy.

General Recommendations:

  • For emergency scenarios, refer to a simple bucket-type toilet: Use a 10-20 liter plastic bucket with a lid, line it with garbage bags, and place absorbent material (such as cat litter) at the bottom. Pair it with a simple tent or screen to enclose a private space.
  • When customizing a portable toilet, select materials according to the scenario (such as thickened steel plates for construction sites and aluminum alloys for outdoor use) and functional configurations (such as vents and activated carbon deodorization devices).
