Simple Portable Small Toilet

Admin October 09, 2026

A simple portable small toilet can be achieved by modifying a water storage barrel or tank, as follows:

I. Water Storage Barrel Modification Plan

  1. Basic Structure Construction

    • Use an angle grinder to split the water storage barrel in half along the centerline, retaining the bottom as the main body of the toilet.
    • Install universal wheels at the four corners of a wooden board to form a movable base. Use wooden strips and self-tapping screws to build a frame around the barrel, increasing the height to an appropriate range (usually 1.8-2 meters).
    • Cut a rectangular opening on the side of the water storage barrel as the doorway. Embed sponge strips to form the door frame, cover the outside with plastic soft panels to create walls, and place the split upper half of the barrel on top as the roof. Apply white waterproof paint to the surface to enhance aesthetics and durability.
  2. Functional System Installation

    • Drainage System: Cut a circular hole at the bottom of the barrel, install a drain pipe to form a floor drain, and connect it to an external sewage tank. Cut a hole on the side to connect a direct joint, and attach a plastic bucket outside as a water storage device for collecting flushing wastewater.
    • Shower System: Use a water pipe to make a simple shower heater. Install a three-way joint below the water inlet pipe, with one end connected to a showerhead and the other end extending to the doorway as the water inlet pipe for a handwashing basin. Fix the showerhead bracket to the wall to ensure safe use.
    • Toilet System: Place a toilet and fix the water tank. Seal the connection between the toilet and the bottom of the barrel with glass glue to prevent leakage. Extend the drain pipe horizontally to the sewage tank through a three-way joint to form a closed sewage discharge path.

II. Water Storage Tank Modification Plan

  1. Movable Base and Tank Body Processing

    • Fix universal wheels at the four corners of a pallet, place a water storage tank recovered from a garbage station, and use an angle grinder to cut along the marked line at the top to remove the tank top, forming an open tank body.
    • Stack two open tank bodies upside down, fix the outer frame with self-tapping screws, cut a rectangular opening as the doorway, drill a hole in the internal floor, insert an elbow, and connect a water pipe. Seal it and cut off the excess part.
  2. Functional Module Integration

    • Toilet Module: Place the toilet and fix it with glue, connect the water inlet pipe of the water tank, and install a toilet seat to enhance comfort.
    • Washbasin Module: Fix the water pipe with clips on the wall, install a faucet, and fix a stainless-steel basin below as a handwashing basin. Connect the shower hose and a spray-type showerhead, and fix the bracket to the wall.
    • Door System: Fix hinges on the frame of the water storage tank, connect a wooden board at the other end to form a door, and install a door handle to ensure easy opening and closing.

Precautions:

  • Wear protective equipment during cutting operations to avoid injury from metal shavings or plastic splashes.
  • All water pipe connections should be treated with glue or sealing rings to prevent water leakage.
  • When moving, ensure that the sewage pipe is separated from the water storage device to avoid liquid spillage.
