Simple Mobile Toilet Construction Method
Admin October 09, 2026
A simple mobile toilet can be made using a water storage tank. Here are the specific steps:

I. Basic Frame Construction
- Water Storage Tank Modification: Use an angle grinder to split the water storage tank along its longitudinal centerline, creating two semi-circular tank bodies. Choose a corrosion-resistant plastic tank as the main body and ensure it is undamaged.
- Mobile Device Installation: Fix universal wheels at the four corners of a wooden baseboard. The wheels should have braking functions to enhance stability. The size of the baseboard should be slightly larger than the diameter of the tank body to provide support for subsequent structures.
- Height Reinforcement: Take wooden square bars (with a cross-section of no less than 4cm×4cm) and fix them to the upper edge of the tank body with self-tapping screws to form a circular frame. The recommended height of the frame is 30-40cm, which not only ensures sufficient usage space but also facilitates the installation of the drainage system.
II. Wall and Roof Construction
- Wall Installation: Cut plastic soft panels to the appropriate size and insert them into the gaps between the wooden square bars to form the walls. The soft panels should be made of a waterproof and easy-to-clean material, and the edges should be sealed with waterproof glue to prevent leakage.
- Roof Construction: Invert the upper half of the split water storage tank and place it on top of the wooden frame as the roof. Seal the connection between the roof and the walls with glass glue. The recommended roof slope is ≥15° to facilitate rainwater drainage.
- Surface Treatment: Apply two coats of white waterproof paint to the wooden frame to enhance its aesthetics and extend its service life. The paint layer should be of uniform thickness to avoid runs.
III. Functional System Integration
- Drainage System: Drill a 5cm diameter hole at the bottom of the tank body and install a PVC drain pipe (with a check valve) as a floor drain. Drill a hole on the side and connect a 45° elbow to connect to a sewage tank or septic tank.
- Water Supply System: Place a small plastic tank on the roof and connect it to a simple shower head modified from a water pipe via a hose. Install a three-way connector below the water inlet pipe to branch out the water supply pipes for the shower head and the washbasin.
- Sanitary Ware: Place a finished toilet and install a water tank. Seal the connection between the water tank and the water inlet pipe with Teflon tape. The washbasin can be made of lightweight plastic and fixed to a bracket extending from the door frame.
IV. Detail Optimization
- Door Construction: Use foam strips to拼接 (join) discarded honeycomb wooden boards and wrap them with waterproof cloth to form the door. Install magnetic strips on both sides of the door frame to ensure a tight closure, and choose a simple bolt-type door lock.
- Ventilation Design: Drill a 10cm diameter ventilation hole in the roof and install a rain cap and a screen to ensure air circulation while preventing insects from entering.
- Power System: If lighting is required, solar panels (with matching batteries) or 12V low-voltage LED lights can be installed. The wiring should be hidden inside the walls and waterproofed.
Precautions: Wear protective gloves and goggles throughout the construction process to avoid injury from the angle grinder's flying debris. All connections should be sealed with waterproof glue or glass glue to ensure there are no leakage hazards.
