Mobile Toilets at Shenzhen Book Fair

The mobile toilets at the Shenzhen Book Fair are epidemic-prevention smart and eco-friendly portable restrooms, developed by the team led by Academician Meng Jianmin of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, featuring multiple innovative designs and functional characteristics.

Appearance and Layout Design

These portable restrooms have a compact appearance similar to a refrigerator, with clear signage and good isolation. Five units have been installed in the southern area of the Central Book City Plaza. The internal space is well-planned, with separate mother-and-child rooms and toilet stalls. When a toilet is in use, a red light on the door illuminates to prevent accidental entry.

Internal Facility Configuration

• Toilet Stalls: In a space of less than 2 square meters, the facilities are complete. They are equipped with air conditioning, sinks, disposable toilet seat covers, hand soap, hand dryers, tissues, hooks, trash cans, etc. Some facilities are designed with sensors, eliminating the need for hand contact and reducing the risk of cross-infection.
• Mother-and-Child Rooms: These rooms are even more well-equipped, providing free diapers. The changing tables are equipped with automatic exhaust fans to eliminate odors. Hidden toilets, baby seats, adult seats, hot and cold water, charging sockets, as well as bottle sterilization and drying equipment are all available. The nearly 4-square-meter space can accommodate an adult with three children and is equipped with lighting for convenient use at night.

Functional Characteristics

• Contactless Door Opening: Citizens can open the doors without contact by scanning a code, reducing the risk of contact transmission.
• Disinfection Function: After each use, the system automatically performs nano-mist disinfection of the entire restroom interior. At the same time, the water supply system, sewage system, and integrated sewage storage equipment are all designed with enclosed disinfection functions to block virus transmission at the source.
• Antibacterial and Deodorizing: The inner walls of the restrooms are made of photocatalyst panels that can automatically decompose ammonia nitrogen, providing antibacterial and deodorizing effects. Negative-pressure fresh air, exhaust systems, and patented deodorizers can quickly purify the air. Odorous gases are treated by deodorization modules before being discharged, ensuring clean and odor-free air inside and outside.
• Rapid Installation: These portable restrooms can be installed within 3 hours, providing strong support for epidemic prevention work. For example, in late March, when vaccination sites in Nanshan and Luohu districts received feedback about difficulties in restroom access for the public and medical staff, technicians completed the installation from the delivery of modules to the site in just 3 hours.

These mobile toilets provided citizens with a comfortable, convenient, hygienic, and safe restroom environment during the Shenzhen Book Fair, receiving widespread acclaim.
