Mobile Toilet at Shenzhen Book City
The mobile toilet at Shenzhen Book City is an epidemic-prevention, intelligent, and environmentally friendly mobile public restroom, designed and developed by the team led by Academician Meng Jianmin of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, featuring multiple innovative technologies and user-friendly designs.

I. Design and Patents
This mobile public restroom, led by Academician Meng Jianmin's team, has applied for 34 patents, including 12 (or 11, according to some sources) invention patents, 20 utility model patents, and 3 design patents. Its design breaks away from traditional public restroom forms, with an appearance the size of a refrigerator, exquisite and elegant, with clear signage and strong isolation. It supports contactless QR code scanning for door opening, balancing practicality and aesthetics.
II. Functional Zones and Facilities
- Toilet Cubicle: Covering less than 2 square meters, it is equipped with an air conditioner, sensor-activated handwashing station, disposable toilet seat covers, hand soap, hand dryer, tissue paper, hooks, and a trash bin, among others. Some facilities use sensor technology to reduce the risk of contact contamination.
- Baby Care Room: Covering nearly 4 square meters, it provides free diapers, a diaper-changing table with an automatic exhaust fan, a concealed toilet, baby seats, adult seats, hot and cold water supply, charging sockets, as well as bottle sterilization and drying equipment. The lighting can be adjusted in brightness to create a comfortable environment.
III. Epidemic Prevention Technologies
- Disinfection System: Equipped with a nano-mist disinfection device, it allows for customizable disinfection frequencies; the water supply, sewage system, and integrated sewage storage equipment achieve closed disinfection; the inner walls use photocatalyst panels to automatically decompose ammonia nitrogen, inhibiting bacteria and eliminating odors.
- Air Purification: The negative pressure fresh air and exhaust system, combined with a patented deodorizer, quickly purifies the air; one-person-one-disinfection, negative pressure exhaust, and centralized waste collection and disposal technologies block cross-infection paths.
IV. Application Scenarios and Effects
This public restroom is characterized by being odorless and ready-to-use anywhere, and has been applied in more than twenty scenarios, including ports, docks, and nucleic acid testing sites. It also served as the only designated related product for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, stationed in the core awarding area. During the Shenzhen Book Fair, it reached a peak daily usage rate of 250 people, receiving positive feedback from citizens for its convenience and comfort. Its modular design supports rapid deployment, providing an efficient epidemic-prevention restroom solution for high-traffic public areas.
