Mobile Toilets in Shanxi Tourist Attractions

Admin October 12, 2026

During the May Day holiday, the Jinci Scenic Area in Shanxi took innovative and effective measures to address the issue of mobile toilets in tourist attractions.

I. Specific Measures

To cope with the toilet challenges brought by the peak tourist flow during the May Day holiday, the Jinci Scenic Area temporarily converted men's toilets into women's toilets and deployed buses as mobile men's toilets. Specifically, the scenic area temporarily transformed one of the men's restrooms with the highest foot traffic at the entrance into a women's restroom. This change directly increased the number of women's toilets, effectively alleviating the toilet shortage for female visitors. At the same time, the scenic area also set up buses outside as temporary men's toilets, providing additional toilet space for male visitors and further balancing the usage pressure between men's and women's toilets.

II. Implementation Effects

This initiative, implemented for the first time this year, achieved remarkable results. By implementing these optimization measures, the average daily restroom接待量 (reception capacity, here translated as 'number of visitors served') in the area increased significantly from about 3,000 to 5,000 during the peak tourist period. This change in data intuitively reflects the effectiveness of the measures, not only improving the restroom usage efficiency but also enhancing visitor satisfaction.

III. Future Prospects

Staff from the Jinci Museum stated that this was an attempt based on summarizing past experiences. After the May Day holiday, these temporary measures might be removed, but they could be continued during future holidays. This means that the Jinci Scenic Area has accumulated certain experience in addressing toilet issues during peak tourist periods and may develop a more mature and comprehensive solution in the future.

IV. Reference Significance

The initiative taken by the Jinci Scenic Area provides valuable reference for other tourist attractions. During peak tourist periods, how to reasonably allocate and utilize existing resources to meet the basic needs of visitors is a challenge faced by every scenic area. The Jinci Scenic Area offers a feasible solution for other scenic areas by temporarily transforming toilets and deploying mobile toilets.
