Shanghai Container Houses in Anti-Epidemic Efforts

Admin September 16, 2026

Container houses in Shanghai have played a crucial role in the anti-epidemic efforts, primarily in quickly constructing temporary isolation and treatment centers and meeting the office and living needs of medical staff.

I. Quick Construction of Temporary Isolation and Treatment Centers

During the anti-epidemic process, with a large number of people requiring isolation, quickly building safe and comfortable isolation and treatment centers became crucial. Container houses, with their unique advantages, became an ideal choice for temporary isolation and treatment centers. For example, China Railway Fourth Bureau Group Shanghai Co., Ltd. utilized container houses to rapidly construct an epidemic prevention and control isolation and treatment center with 1,148 beds in the Huabo Road temporary isolation and treatment center project in Jiading District, Shanghai. From arrival to completion, the entire team worked around the clock, completing the indoor renovation task of a total construction area of 8,448 square meters in less than six days, including the demolition of the original structure, the construction of new indoor isolation structures, and the renovation of water, electricity, and lighting systems. The modular design and quick assembly characteristics of container houses significantly improved construction efficiency, winning precious time for the anti-epidemic efforts.

II. Meeting the Office and Living Needs of Medical Staff

On the front lines of the anti-epidemic battle, medical staff face high work intensity and pressure, making it crucial to provide them with safe and comfortable office and living environments. Container houses can not only be used to build isolation and treatment centers but can also be renovated according to actual needs to meet the office and living requirements of medical staff. For example, in the Huabo Road temporary isolation and treatment center project assisted by China Railway Fourth Bureau Group, an additional 32 container houses were set up on-site as office and living quarters for medical staff. These container houses have been carefully designed and renovated, with complete internal facilities, providing a good working and living environment for medical staff.

III. Other Advantages of Container Houses in Anti-Epidemic Efforts

In addition to quick construction and meeting practical needs, container houses also offer other advantages in anti-epidemic efforts. For example, they have a high degree of structural safety redundancy, capable of withstanding extreme environments; they use environmentally friendly materials, meeting green building standards; and they have high space utilization, allowing for free combination and expansion according to actual needs.
