Self-Modified Car Portable Toilet
Admin October 09, 2026
Self-modifying a car portable toilet can be achieved through the following methods, but proceed with caution and pay attention to safety and compliance:

1. Repurposing a Laundry Detergent Bottle as a Urinal
Materials and Tools: Discarded laundry detergent bottle, handheld drill, water pipe, nut, glue, gasket, mineral water (for testing). Steps:
- Drill a hole in the center of the bottle cap that matches the diameter of the water pipe, install a direct connector, and tighten it securely;
- Slide one end of the sewer hose into the nut, apply glue to the other end, insert it into the connector, add a gasket inside, and tighten the cap;
- Apply glue around the edge of the connector, connect it tightly to the drainage hose, and finally screw the bottle cap back onto the bottle;
- Leak Test: Pour mineral water into the bottle, flip it over, and observe for leaks. Ensure there are no leaks before use. Features: Low cost, simple operation, but limited capacity, suitable for short-distance emergencies.
2. Modifying a Car Armrest Box + Hose into a Portable Urinal
Materials and Tools: Armrest box, hose, discarded plastic bottle, sponge, tape, electric drill. Steps:
- Drill a hole in the bottom of the armrest box, extend the hose into the car's underbody, insert the end into a discarded plastic bottle filled with a sponge, and secure it with tape under the car's pedal;
- Key Precautions:
- Avoid drilling holes in important vehicle circuits to prevent damage;
- Replace the water filtration material (such as a sponge) regularly to prevent clogging;
- Calculate the hose length precisely to avoid excessive length causing entanglement or insufficient length preventing drainage;
- Test the drainage efficiency after modification to ensure urine flows smoothly into the bottle without backflow. Features: Good concealment, but requires some DIY skills and regular maintenance for long-term use.
3. Utilizing the Trunk Space of MPVs and SUVs to Create an Extended Bathroom
Materials and Tools: Heavy-duty slide rails, screws, portable toilet, enclosed space materials (such as canvas). Steps:
- Use the open trunk door as a roof, enclose the three exposed sides to form a space that matches the height for squatting;
- Install a portable toilet and use heavy-duty slide rails to enable the folding and extension box to slide and bear weight;
- Secure the slide rails to the vehicle body with four screws for easy disassembly. Features: Does not alter the vehicle structure, does not affect driving, provides ample space, suitable for long-distance travel or multiple users, but requires some modification experience.
General Precautions
- Leak Test: All solutions must prioritize leak testing to prevent liquid leaks from damaging the vehicle's interior or electrical circuits;
- Regular Cleaning: For long-term use, regularly clean the container and pipes to prevent bacterial growth;
- Secure the Container: During driving, it is recommended to secure the container in a stable position, such as under the seat, to reduce the risk of shaking;
- Compliance: Some modifications may involve changes to the vehicle structure, so ensure compliance with local regulations;
- Alternative Solutions: If conditions permit, consider purchasing a ready-made portable car urinal, which is designed to be more ergonomic and safer.
