Self-Made Portable Toilet for Home Use
Admin October 02, 2026
Self-made portable toilets for home use can be achieved by utilizing either a water storage tank or common household items, as detailed below:

Making with a Water Storage Tank or Bucket
- Basic Structure Construction: Use an angle grinder to split the water storage bucket in half. Fix universal wheels at the four corners of a wooden board for mobility. Attach wooden strips to the upper side of the bucket with self-tapping screws to increase height, providing space for subsequent installation of other components.
- Wall and Roof Construction: Create an opening on the side of the water storage bucket for the door. Install sponge strips to form the door frame and embed plastic soft panels to create the walls. Place the upper half of the water storage bucket on top of the wooden strips to form the roof. For improved aesthetics, apply waterproof paint.
- Door Making: Use foam strips to拼接 (assemble) discarded honeycomb wooden boards to make a simple door that meets basic opening and closing requirements.
- Drainage and Water System Installation: Drill a hole at the bottom of the bucket to install a drainage pipe, forming a floor drain. Drill holes on the side to connect direct fittings. Place a plastic bucket on the roof to create a small water storage device and connect the homemade shower made from a water pipe. Install a three-way fitting below the water inlet pipe and connect a showerhead. Place a toilet, install the water tank, and secure it with glass glue. Connect the drainage pipe to the sewage bucket. Horizontally connect a water pipe to the three-way fitting on the outlet pipe and extend it to the doorway as the water inlet pipe for the sink.
Making a Simple Emergency Portable Toilet with Common Items
- Emergency Urination Solutions:
- Diaper Filling Method: Remove some cotton and absorbent particles from a diaper and place them in a sealed plastic bag. Utilize the high absorbency of the diaper to quickly absorb urine and prevent leakage.
- Direct Use of Ready-Made Products: You can also directly use portable toilets designed specifically for children available on the market, with a unit price of around 4 yuan.
- Emergency Defecation Solutions:
- Large Plastic Bag Method: Use a large plastic bag to line the inside of a vehicle or a fixed container. Have the child defecate directly into it and then seal and dispose of it.
- Cardboard Box Assembly Method: Line the bottom of a small cardboard box with a plastic bag to create a simple enclosure structure.
- Enhanced Absorbency: Add a small packet of superabsorbent polymer to the sealed plastic bag. When exposed to water, the outer packaging automatically dissolves, quickly solidifying the excrement and reducing odors and leakage risks.
