Materials for Self-Made Container Houses

Admin September 15, 2026

The main materials for self-made container houses include steel, thermal insulation materials, interior and exterior wall panels, door and window materials, flooring materials, and other auxiliary materials. Details are as follows:

  1. Steel: Steel is the primary structural support material for container houses, including angle steel, channel steel, and tubing. Hot-dip galvanized cold-formed steel is a common choice, offering excellent rust and corrosion resistance to ensure the structural safety of the house. Additionally, the base of container houses is typically welded from channel steel to withstand significant pressure.

  2. Thermal Insulation Materials: Since steel can deform under extreme temperatures, affecting comfort, thermal insulation materials are necessary in container houses. Common thermal insulation materials include polyurethane foam, rock wool, and glass wool, which provide both heat insulation and fire resistance.

  3. Interior and Exterior Wall Panel Materials: Both the interior and exterior of container houses require paneling for decoration. Common panel materials include color-coated steel sheets, calcium silicate boards, cement fiber boards, and metal sheets. These materials are not only aesthetically pleasing but also offer some degree of thermal insulation and soundproofing.

  4. Door and Window Materials: Doors and windows in container houses need to provide good ventilation and sealing performance. Aluminum alloy doors and windows are commonly used, offering advantages such as lightness, aesthetics, and corrosion resistance. Additionally, aluminum alloy provides good thermal insulation, enhancing the comfort of the house. Glass is mainly used for doors, windows, and observation windows to increase natural light and visibility.

  5. Flooring Materials: The floors of container houses typically use cement fiber boards or steel-wood composite flooring, which are durable and easy to clean. In some high-end customized container houses, moisture-resistant wood-grain boards may also be used to enhance the living experience.

  6. Other Auxiliary Materials: These include connecting components such as screws and rivets, as well as auxiliary materials for waterproofing, fireproofing, and anti-theft purposes. Although these materials may seem insignificant, they are crucial for ensuring the overall performance and safety of container houses.
