Self-built Container House Price

Admin September 15, 2026

The self-built price range for container houses is quite broad, with the price per square meter for basic new container houses ranging from several hundred to several thousand yuan, depending on factors such as material, specifications, and configuration.

I. Price Range

  1. Basic Model Price: A standard 3m x 6m (approximately 18 square meters) container house, in its basic new form, typically costs between 10,000 and several tens of thousands of yuan, translating to a wide range of prices per square meter. For example, some simple container houses may cost as low as 300 to 500 yuan per square meter, while those with higher configurations and better materials may exceed 1,000 yuan per square meter.
  2. Second-hand Price: Second-hand container houses are generally cheaper than new ones, with some second-hand units priced between 5,000 and 10,000 yuan, depending on their condition and configuration.

II. Core Factors Affecting Price

  1. Material: Color steel plates are relatively inexpensive but offer poor sound insulation; rock wool sandwich panels are more expensive (about 30% more) but provide superior fire resistance and thermal insulation; EPS core materials are low-cost but have slightly weaker performance. The thickness of the panels and the color steel skin also directly affect the price.
  2. Specifications: For container houses with an area less than 100 square meters, the unit price may increase by about 10%; for those larger than 500 square meters, the unit price may decrease by 10% to 15%. Two-story structures are 15% to 25% more expensive than single-story ones.
  3. Configuration: Luxury or customized container houses with higher configurations, such as tiled floors and stone-like paint exteriors, may cost more than 2,000 yuan per square meter.
  4. Location and Transportation: Prices in first-tier cities are 10% to 30% higher than in second- and third-tier cities; transportation distances exceeding 50 kilometers require additional charges based on distance.

III. Other Costs

  1. Foundation Treatment: This may account for about 15% of the total cost, depending on geological conditions and design requirements.
  2. Additional Features: Environmental protection facilities such as solar power supply and sewage treatment systems will increase the overall cost.
