Scope of Application for Mobile Toilets in Scenic Areas

Admin October 12, 2026

The scope of application for mobile toilets in scenic areas covers natural scenic spots, temporary events, transportation nodes, and remote areas, and can be specifically divided into the following four categories:

Natural Scenic Spots and Ecological Protection Zones

In remote or ecologically sensitive areas such as mountains, lakes, and forests, the construction cost of traditional fixed toilets is high and may damage the environment. Mobile toilets serve as a flexible solution. For example, Jiuzhaigou Scenic Area adopts waterless biological degradation toilets, which reduce water consumption through microbial decomposition technology and control the service radius within 400 meters, meeting the needs of tourists while avoiding interference with the natural landscape. These toilets are usually made of eco-friendly materials and can be quickly disassembled and transferred to adapt to areas with complex terrain.

Festivals and Temporary Gathering Places

During short-term events such as music festivals, temple fairs, and sports events, there is a sudden increase in tourist traffic with concentrated distribution, necessitating the rapid deployment of temporary sanitation facilities. Taking Shanghai Disney's holiday plan as an example, one toilet stall is required for every 100 people, with temporary mobile toilets accounting for 30% of the total. These toilets can be assembled within 24 hours through modular design. Such toilets need to be quickly assembled and have convenient sewage disposal. Some high-end models are also equipped with deodorization systems and barrier-free facilities to enhance the user experience.

Transportation Hubs and Hiking Trails

Toilets should be set up at intervals of 2-3 kilometers in areas such as hiking trails, parking lots, and stops for scenic area sightseeing buses. For example, Mount Huangshan Scenic Area has deployed solar-powered mobile toilets at Yuping Tower, Guangming Peak, and other must-visit spots for tourists, using photovoltaic panels for power supply to solve the problem of power supply. These toilets are usually equipped with septic tanks or pumping systems and are regularly cleaned by special vehicles to ensure long-term hygiene.

Scenic Walking Trails and Camping Areas Far from Core Service Zones

In low-density areas such as forest trails and grassland camping areas, mobile toilets can be directly placed without complex civil engineering, maintaining environmental cleanliness. According to regulations, the maximum interval between toilets in low-density areas is 500 meters, and GPS positioning signs are required to facilitate tourists in finding them. These toilets mostly adopt lightweight designs, and some models can even be carried by manpower, adapting to deployment needs in areas without roads.

Comprehensive assessment is required for site selection and configuration: In high-density areas (such as entrance squares), toilets should be covered within 300 meters, and the number of toilet stalls should be configured at 1.2 times the peak number of tourists; in low-density areas, the upper limit of the interval is 500 meters. Through scientific planning, mobile toilets can not only alleviate the problem of "difficulty in finding toilets" but also minimize intervention in the natural environment.
