Overall Solution for Mobile Toilets in Scenic Areas

Admin September 29, 2026

The overall solution for mobile toilets in scenic areas needs to be customized based on passenger flow characteristics, site conditions, and usage requirements. It mainly consists of three types of plans: for small scenic areas, medium-to-large scenic areas, and special plans for peak tourist seasons, and requires dynamic adjustments in combination with general technologies and management points.

I. Plan for Small Scenic Areas/Stable Passenger Flow Applicable to scenic areas with a daily passenger flow of less than a thousand people and a difference of less than three times between the off-peak and peak seasons (such as city parks and countryside greenways). The core configuration consists of standardized finished units, including 4-8 squatting positions, an independent hand-washing area, and barrier-free units. The exterior materials can be customized (such as white walls and black tiles for ancient towns, and wooden-textured slopes for mountainous areas). The preferred method of sewage treatment is connecting to the municipal sewer network to reduce costs, and it is also necessary to equip with insulation layers to prevent condensation during the rainy season in the south or freezing and cracking in winter in the north. This plan has low costs and simple maintenance, making it suitable for scenarios with stable passenger flow.

II. Plan for Medium-to-Large Scenic Areas/Strong Tidal Passenger Flow For scenic areas with a daily passenger flow ranging from thousands to tens of thousands of people and peak values on holidays reaching more than five times the usual levels (such as 4A/5A-level comprehensive scenic areas and mountainous scenic areas), a "fixed + flexible + emergency" hierarchical deployment model is adopted:

  1. Core Fixed Layer: Deploy permanent prefabricated public toilets at essential nodes such as visitor centers and main entrances and exits to cover 60%-70% of the peak demand.
  2. Flexible Supplementary Layer: Use relocatable modular units at secondary nodes and seasonal hotspots, which are brought in before the peak season and removed after the off-peak season.
  3. Emergency Reserved Layer: Reserve empty spaces with completed foundations and water and electricity connections to cope with sudden surges in passenger flow. In addition, it is necessary to shorten waiting times through intelligent toilet position guidance systems (such as real-time display of usage on an app) and electronic queue calling machines. After implementation in a certain scenic area, the average queue time was reduced from 25 minutes to 8 minutes.

III. Special Optimization Plan for Peak Tourist Seasons Taking the scenic area in Pingxiang as an example, during the peak season, the experience needs to be enhanced from three dimensions: site planning, service standards, and cultural integration:

  1. Site Planning: Set up temporary toilets at a standard of "one site every 100 meters" near popular attractions and dining areas to ensure that visitors can reach them within 3 minutes.
  2. Service Standards: Assign dedicated personnel to clean and disinfect at least three times a day, set up barrier-free facilities, nursing rooms, and children's private compartments, and provide free toilet paper, hand soap, and other supplies (visitor satisfaction reached 92%).
  3. Cultural Integration: The exterior adopts local cultural elements such as imitation wooden structures, and the interior uses environmentally friendly materials and is decorated with green plants.
  4. Emergency Mechanism: Prepare spare mobile toilets and establish a rapid mechanism for responding to repairs or replacements within 1 hour.

General Technologies and Management Points Modular design allows for flexible combination of water storage and sewage treatment units (such as chemical treatment for short-term events and biological treatment for multi-day camping). Terrain adaptability provides wheeled chassis (for gentle slopes and lawns) and lifting solutions (for rocky platforms or steep slopes). Resource recycling reduces water consumption through internal circulation or external recycling equipment, avoiding damage to soil and vegetation. The plan needs to be dynamically adjusted in combination with the specific passenger flow data and site conditions of the scenic area.
