Reinforcement of Rural Prefabricated Slab Houses

Admin September 18, 2026

The following methods can be used for reinforcing rural prefabricated slab houses:

1. Reinforcement with I-beams as crossbeams
Use I-beams as the main frame of the house, determining the density of placement based on the size of the profile. For example, when using No. 20 steel, three crossbeams in a cross shape with the prefabricated slabs can be placed, and I-beam columns can be erected at both ends for support, with the columns needing to be fixed to the walls. This method can significantly enhance the hardness of the prefabricated slabs and is suitable for areas with large spans or high load-bearing requirements.

2. Addition of concrete layers and beam structures
Form crossbeams by knocking out some prefabricated slabs, add vertical beams (cross beams) on the crossbeams, and pour concrete floor slabs to increase the thickness of the floor slabs. After the beams and floor slabs form an integral structure, the walls need to be reinforced simultaneously, such as adding columns to disperse the pressure of the floor slabs on the walls and avoid local overstressing that may cause cracking.

3. Foundation reinforcement to improve load-bearing capacity
Enhance the load-bearing capacity of the foundation by increasing the foundation size, deepening the foundation, or adding steel reinforcement meshes. At the same time, reinforcement agents or foundation sealing materials can be injected to improve the seismic performance of the foundation. This method is suitable for areas with foundation settlement or soft soil conditions and requires the design of a reinforcement plan based on the geological conditions.

4. Steel reinforcement at key structural parts
Install steel beams, steel columns, or steel plates at parts such as walls, stairs, and roofs to improve the overall strength and stiffness of the house. For walls, the seismic capacity can be enhanced by injecting reinforced concrete internally, which is especially suitable for old houses or areas with high earthquake risks.

5. Reinforcement with metal frames on exterior walls
Install metal frames on the exterior walls of the house to enhance the overall stability through the frame structure. The frames can be filled with reinforcement agents or sealing materials to further improve the seismic performance. This method is convenient for construction and is suitable for houses with aging exterior walls or loose structures.

6. Installation of seismic isolation devices to reduce earthquake impact
Install spring isolators, rubber isolators, and other devices in the foundation or structure to effectively reduce the horizontal and vertical seismic forces generated by earthquakes. Seismic isolation technology can reduce the amplitude of house vibrations, protect the structural safety, and is suitable for areas with frequent earthquakes.

7. Reinforcement with steel bars at key parts
Install steel bars at parts such as walls, stairs, and beam-columns to improve the overall stability through the synergistic effect of steel bars and concrete. This method has low cost and flexible construction and is suitable for houses with insufficient local load-bearing capacity.

8. Thickening of floor slab sections for reinforcement
Add reinforced concrete adhesive layers with a thickness of no less than 40 mm on the surface and bottom of the prefabricated floor slabs to improve the load-bearing capacity of the floor slabs. During construction, ensure tight bonding between the new and old concrete to avoid hollowing or peeling.

9. Reinforcement with carbon fiber cloth粘贴 (Note: '粘贴' should be translated as 'pasting' in context, but kept as is here to show original text placement, actual translation would integrate it) pasting
Paste carbon fiber cloth along the force direction of the prefabricated floor slabs at the tensioned parts and set top anchor points. Carbon fiber cloth has the characteristics of high strength and light weight and can effectively improve the load-bearing capacity of the floor slabs, which is suitable for small-scale reinforcement or scenarios with limited space.

10. Reinforcement method with pasted steel plates
Enhance the load-bearing capacity of flexural members (such as floor slabs) by pasting steel plates. Note that the steel plates and concrete cannot be directly poured together; otherwise, peeling problems may occur. Special adhesives should be used to ensure firm bonding.
