Rural Homemade Mobile Simple Toilet

Admin October 05, 2026

Rural homemade mobile simple toilets can be made using materials such as water storage tanks and pallets. Common types include portable toilets, biodegradable types, and waterless flush types, offering advantages such as low cost and improved hygiene.

I. Construction Methods and Core Materials

  1. Basic Structure Construction

    • Pallet and Mobile Device: Choose a corrosion-resistant metal or high-strength plastic pallet as the base, and fix four universal wheels (with brake function) at the bottom to ensure flexible movement and stable parking. The size of the pallet should be adjusted according to the specifications of the water storage tank, typically 1.2-1.5 meters in length and 0.8-1 meter in width.
    • Water Storage Tank Modification: Select a plastic or metal water storage tank with a capacity of 200-300 liters. Cut an opening with a diameter of about 30 centimeters at the top as the toilet sewage outlet, and cut a rectangular opening 60 centimeters long and 180 centimeters high on the side, with the edges polished smooth to avoid scratches.
  2. Functional Facility Installation

    • Drainage System: Connect a PVC drainage pipe at the bottom of the water storage tank, extending it to an external septic tank or sewage collection bucket. The pipe diameter is recommended to be over 50 millimeters to prevent blockage. If a waterless flush design is adopted, the drainage pipe can be omitted, and biodegradable bags or solid waste collection boxes can be used instead.
    • Toilet and Sink: The toilet can be a purchased portable toilet (with a feces storage tank) or homemade using a plastic bucket with a sealed lid; the sink can be a small plastic basin connected to the water storage tank via a hose (a water tap needs to be installed by cutting a hole at the top of the tank in advance).
    • Door and Ventilation: Make a door using lightweight wood or plastic board, and install hinges and locks; cut a ventilation hole with a diameter of 10 centimeters at the top and cover it with a fly screen to reduce odors and mosquitoes.

II. Common Types and Suitable Scenarios

  1. Portable Toilet Type: Suitable for short-term use or families with a small population. The toilet can be disassembled and cleaned, and the feces storage tank needs to be cleaned regularly (recommended every 3-5 days).
  2. Biodegradable Type: Uses biodegradable material (such as starch-based plastic) waste collection bags, requiring no water flushing. It is suitable for areas with scarce water resources, but the degradation bags need to be replaced regularly (costing about 2-5 yuan each).
  3. Waterless Flush Type: Reduces odors through physical separation (such as slope design) or chemical treatment (such as adding deodorants). It is suitable for arid areas, but solid waste needs to be cleaned regularly (recommended every 2 weeks).

III. Core Advantages

  1. Low Cost: The total cost of materials (water storage tank, pallet, universal wheels, etc.) is about 500-1000 yuan, much lower than that of finished mobile toilets (over 3000 yuan).
  2. High Flexibility: It can be moved to courtyards, farmlands, and other locations at any time, adapting to the scattered living characteristics in rural areas.
  3. Improved Hygiene: The enclosed design reduces mosquito and fly breeding, and the drainage system or biodegradation technology reduces pollution risks, meeting the needs for improving the rural living environment.
