Prefabricated Components for Roof Modeling of Buildings

Admin September 19, 2026

Prefabricated components for roof modeling of buildings are mainly divided into two categories: functional horizontal components and decorative modeling components, and the specific choice should be made in combination with structural requirements and design styles.

I. Functional Horizontal Components

  1. Steel Bar Truss Floor Decking Panels This component is formed by connecting factory-prefabricated steel bar trusses with fiber cement boards and is a common roof horizontal load-bearing component in prefabricated buildings. Its advantage lies in ensuring the spacing of steel bars and the thickness of the concrete cover through industrial production. During construction, it is directly laid on the roof steel beams, and after concrete pouring, an integral floor system is formed. Such components are suitable for large-span roof structures, can reduce on-site wet work, and improve construction efficiency.

  2. Prefabricated Composite Slabs They are composed of a prefabricated concrete base slab and a cast-in-place concrete layer. The prefabricated layer completes steel bar tying and concrete pouring in the factory, and after on-site installation, the upper concrete is poured to form an integral whole. This component combines the advantages of prefabricated and cast-in-place processes, ensuring both structural strength and shortening the construction period. In roof applications, attention should be paid to reserving the positions of embedded parts to ensure connection with roof drainage, insulation, and other systems.

II. Decorative Modeling Components

  1. Traditional-Style Prefabricated Components In modern new Chinese-style buildings, roof modeling often draws on traditional elements (such as upturned eaves, dougong brackets, and chiwens). These components are mostly prefabricated using materials such as resin glazed tiles and GRC (glass fiber reinforced concrete). For example, resin glazed tile components are molded and can simulate the colors and textures of traditional glazed tiles while being lightweight and corrosion-resistant. GRC components are made by compounding high-strength cement with glass fibers, enabling customized production of complex shapes.

  2. Modern Modular Components For irregular roofs or parametric design requirements, steel structure or concrete modular prefabricated components have become mainstream. Steel structure components form frames through factory welding or bolt connections and are covered with metal sheets or composite panels. Concrete components are assembled using prefabricated concrete modules, and their surfaces can be treated with wood-like or stone-like textures. Such components require precise design using BIM technology to ensure the sealing and structural stability between modules.

In practical applications, the selection of roof modeling prefabricated components should comprehensively consider performance requirements such as load, waterproofing, and earthquake resistance, and be customized and produced by professional manufacturers according to design drawings. For example, large-span public buildings prefer steel bar truss floor decking panels or prefabricated composite slabs; cultural buildings may combine traditional decorative components with modern modular technology to achieve a unity of function and aesthetics.
