Lifespan of Rock Wool Board Container Houses

Admin September 17, 2026

The lifespan of rock wool board container houses generally ranges from 10 to 20 years, depending on multiple factors such as material quality, usage scenarios, environmental conditions, and maintenance.

From the perspective of material quality, if standard-specification rock wool boards with a bulk density of over 100kg/m³ are used, combined with 0.3mm-0.5mm thick color-coated steel sheets, the designed lifespan can exceed 10 years in conventional construction sites or temporary office settings. If higher-quality fire-resistant rock wool and thicker galvanized base plates are selected, their corrosion resistance and fire resistance will be better, further extending the lifespan.

Usage scenarios are also a key factor affecting lifespan. In long-term residential or high-standard commercial applications, higher requirements are placed on the stability and durability of the houses. In such cases, if good drainage and rain protection measures are implemented to prevent water accumulation from eroding the structure, the lifespan of rock wool board container houses can be extended to 15 to 20 years or even longer.

The impact of environmental conditions on lifespan cannot be overlooked. In an environment with an average annual humidity of 75%, ordinary rock wool boards have a lifespan of only 8-10 years because high humidity accelerates material corrosion and aging. In contrast, in dry and well-ventilated environments, the lifespan of rock wool boards is significantly extended.

Maintenance is crucial for extending the lifespan of the houses. If container houses use rock wool sandwich panels and are well-maintained, such as through regular inspections of the house structure, timely repairs of damaged parts, and keeping the house clean and dry, they can last for over 15 years. Additionally, correct installation methods can prevent long-term water immersion and other issues, thereby extending the lifespan of the houses.

There is also a claim that rock wool boards are extremely durable, with a designed lifespan typically matching that of the main building structure, reaching 50 years or even longer. However, this claim is based on the premise of correct installation and avoidance of extreme conditions such as long-term water immersion.
