Roadside Portable Toilet

Admin October 06, 2026

A roadside portable toilet, also known as a portable toilet, is a facility that can be moved as a whole and provides public restroom services.

Suitable Locations: Roadside portable toilets are suitable for stations, docks, tourist attractions, newly built residential areas, large construction sites, squares, densely populated public places, and bustling commercial streets, including roadsides. These locations often have high foot traffic and an urgent need for restroom facilities, and portable toilets can be flexibly deployed to meet temporary or permanent restroom needs.

Components and Structure: They are generally composed of a fecal sewage storage tank (or fecal sewage treatment device), flooring, sanitary ware, walls, washing equipment, water tanks, roofs, and mobile devices. These components work together to ensure the normal use and hygiene of the portable toilet.

Development History and Classification: Initially, portable toilets were made of materials such as wood, with simple structures and functions, and were prone to absorbing odors. Later, they gradually evolved to use materials such as fiberglass and polyethylene, improving durability and hygiene. They can be classified by structural form into single-structure and composite-structure portable toilets; by mobility into hoisting, handling, powered, and towed portable toilets; and by sewage treatment method into water-flush and waterless-flush suction portable toilets, circulating water-flush portable toilets, and dry-packing portable toilets.

Features and Advantages: Roadside portable toilets have the advantages of being movable, combinable, and easy to transport. They can be conveniently transported to any location where a restroom needs to be set up and can be used repeatedly, reducing construction costs and improving resource utilization efficiency. For example, in 2023, portable toilets were gradually installed and put into use in the scenic area along the Yellow River in Lanzhou, providing convenience for tourists. There is also a four-stall portable toilet, 4 meters long and 2.3 meters wide, with a pointed roof design. The exterior walls are made of thermal-insulating metal carved panels. The men's restroom has two stalls, urinals, and a sink, which is both practical and aesthetically pleasing.
