Residential container houses are habitable or office buildings that are transformed from containers as their basic structural modules. They feature a wide price range, predominantly lightweight steel materials, prominent characteristics, but also certain usage issues.

Wide Price Range

The price of a standard 3-meter-wide residential container ranges from 5,000 yuan to 18,000 yuan. The price difference mainly depends on the configuration, materials, and source. A simple model without a toilet can be purchased for as low as 5,000 yuan, while adding independent bathroom and kitchen facilities will increase the price. Increasing the thickness of the steel plate and the density of the insulation cotton enhances the durability and insulation of the house, leading to a higher price. Residential container houses converted from second-hand shipping containers are the cheapest, but they may have rust issues that affect their service life and safety. Additionally, renting is more cost-effective than buying, but hidden costs such as transportation and installation fees should be considered.

Nowadays, container mobile homes mainly adopt a lightweight steel frame structure. The main advantage of this structure is that the raw materials are easily accessible and relatively inexpensive, reducing usage costs for users. Certain Usage Issues

Taking the container dormitories used in the 2026 Nagoya Asian Games in Japan as an example, there are issues such as single beds being only 195 centimeters long, narrow room heights and aisles, and poor sound insulation, affecting居住舒适度 (living comfort). Each set has only one air conditioner, which may not meet the needs for indoor temperature regulation. There are also cases of sink leakage and floor waterlogging, affecting the normal use of the house. Moreover, the container site is far from some venues, making commuting inconvenient.
