Renovation of Sliding Toilet Door

Admin September 22, 2026

When renovating a sliding toilet door, multiple factors need to be considered comprehensively, including advantages and disadvantages, installation precautions, size selection, and purchasing points.

Advantages

  • Space-saving: The sliding door has a unique opening and closing method. The space required for opening and closing the door is concentrated in one plane, which can reduce the demand for space area in the bathroom and make the layout more flexible.
  • Simple and durable: A swing door is supported by hinges. Since the bathroom door is relatively heavy, frequent use can easily cause damage. In contrast, a single-piece sliding door is simple, convenient, and more durable.
  • Easy to clean: With a bottom track design, it is convenient for cleaning. When the door is opened and placed close to the wall, it does not take up space.

Disadvantages

  • Feng shui issues: From the perspective of feng shui, if the sliding door of the toilet does not conform to feng shui principles, it may change the layout of the family's aura and affect the family's fortune, such as causing financial losses or affecting health fortune.
  • Privacy issues: The sliding door design is not conducive to privacy protection in some cases. If the door is relocated improperly, one can be easily seen by the outside world when using the toilet, affecting personal security.
  • Space utilization issues: In some layouts, the sliding door of the toilet may not be conducive to reasonable space utilization. If the design does not take into account the overall household flow, it can make the space cramped, affect the placement of other furniture, and reduce the comfort and practicality of the home.
  • Installation restrictions and safety hazards: When installing a sliding door, the height and width of the wall need to be considered. A door opening height of less than 1.95 meters can make people feel压抑. For the installation of a suspended sliding door, the height of the track box control needs to be considered, with at least 12 centimeters at the top and a wall height of at least 207 centimeters. If the track material is not properly selected, problems such as inflexible opening and closing and noise may occur after long-term use. Poor-quality rollers may lead to safety hazards such as derailment during the sliding process.

Installation Precautions

  • Use oriented strand board as a base before ceiling installation and pre-embed the track in advance to make the track flush with the ceiling.
  • It is not recommended to use an external suspension method to solve height issues because the exposed track box affects aesthetics, and over time, the gap between the door and the wall may widen, affecting the stability and safety of the door.

Size Selection

  • The thickness and size of the sliding door should be selected flexibly according to the size of the bathroom. The standard door opening width is 700mm, and a single-sided door requires a clear width of 650mm.
  • For the thickness of bathroom sliding doors, large sliding doors come in 50MM, 75MM, and 100MM, with 100MM being the most common. Small sliding doors are mostly 50MM, 40MM, and 35MM, with 40MM being relatively common.
  • When choosing a single-sided sliding door, the bathroom should have a clear width of at least 650mm.
  • The extra parts on both sides of the door frame are usually 5 - 15mm, depending on the decoration requirements. The size of the door panel is determined by the selected material.

Purchasing Points

When purchasing, pay attention to the sealing performance and the material of the rollers.
