Recommended Dimensions for Portable Toilets

Admin September 28, 2026

The recommended dimensions for portable toilets should be selected based on the usage scenario and functional requirements. Common standard dimensions are as follows:

Single-Compartment Portable Toilet
The length typically ranges from 1.1 to 1.5 meters (some sources mention 1.2 to 1.5 meters), with a width of 1.0 to 1.2 meters and a standard height of 2.2 meters, though some can reach 2.2 to 2.5 meters. These toilets are compact and suitable for construction sites, small events, and other scenarios where basic toilet needs must be met. When designing, ensure that the toilet compartment width is no less than 0.9 meters for comfort. For accessible toilets, the door width must accommodate wheelchair access (usually no less than 0.9 meters).

Double-Compartment Portable Toilet
The length ranges from 2.4 to 3.0 meters (there is also a special design with a double-occupancy length of 6.8 meters, possibly a tandem structure), with a width of 1.2 to 1.5 meters and a height of 2.2 to 2.5 meters. These toilets are suitable for large events, tourist attractions, and other scenarios where two people can use them simultaneously, reducing waiting times. When designing, consider the width of the aisles to avoid congestion. If accessible facilities are included, reserve a turning space for wheelchairs (with a diameter of no less than 1.5 meters).

Multi-Functional Portable Toilet
The length ranges from 3.0 to 4.5 meters, with a width of 2.0 to 2.5 meters and a height of 2.5 to 3.0 meters. These toilets offer more comprehensive functions and may include independent sinks, storage spaces, or management rooms. They are suitable for high-end events and long-term fixed locations (such as parks and transportation hubs). When designing, pay special attention to the height of the sink (recommended 0.8 to 0.9 meters) to accommodate people of different heights. If a management room is included, reserve space for equipment installation (such as water tanks and circuit control boxes).

Additional Special Requirements

  1. Accessible Design: In addition to door width requirements, the floor should be non-slip, and handrails should be installed inside (0.7 to 0.85 meters from the ground). The height of the toilet seat should be between 0.45 and 0.5 meters.
  2. Child-Friendly Design: If serving children, lower the height of the sink (0.6 to 0.7 meters) and provide small toilet seats or squat toilets.
  3. Transportation Limitations: Portable toilets need to be transported by trucks. When designing, consider road height restrictions (usually below 4.5 meters) and turning radii to avoid transportation difficulties due to oversized dimensions.

When selecting dimensions, comprehensively evaluate the number of users, available space, functional requirements, and budget to ensure a balance between practicality and cost-effectiveness.
