Pudong Mobile Ecological Toilet

Admin October 02, 2026

Pudong New Area has built a comprehensive public health system covering diverse scenarios in the field of mobile ecological toilets through upgrades, human-centered design, resource integration, and service expansion.

I. Renovation Projects and Funding Guarantees
In 2024, Pudong New Area launched a mobile public toilet renovation project, procuring and upgrading seven public toilets, including those on Puyi Road and Pu'ao Road, and at the 572 Yongtai Road bus stop. The new toilets strictly adhere to proportional allocations of men's and women's restrooms, with separate third restrooms and barrier-free access to meet the needs of special groups. The total project investment is 2.485 million yuan, with 1.8 million yuan allocated from the 2024 fiscal budget and the remainder included in the 2025 budget to ensure sustained funding and long-term facility maintenance.

II. Design Upgrades and Human-Centered Services
The renovated mobile public toilets feature soft hues like light beige and light brown with dark blue trim, blending naturally with the surrounding environment. Internal facilities have been comprehensively upgraded: separate areas for urinals, squat toilets, and sinks; the addition of 'age-friendly and child-friendly restrooms' with grab bars beside toilets and exclusive designs in children's areas to reduce usage risks; and electronic screens on restroom doors displaying real-time occupancy status to avoid awkward queues. These designs cater to the needs of different age groups, reflecting the inclusivity of public health facilities.

III. Care for Sanitation Workers and Resource Integration
Some mobile public toilets now include 'sanitation worker stations' equipped with refrigerators, showers, microwaves, and charging ports, providing dedicated spaces for sanitation workers to rest, replenish supplies, and clean up. Currently, three public toilets are equipped with such stations, with plans to expand coverage in the future, organically integrating public health services with care for urban workers and improving resource utilization efficiency.

IV. Rental Services and Scenario Coverage
Pudong New Area offers a variety of mobile toilet rental services, covering temporary or long-term usage scenarios such as construction sites, concerts, music festivals, and marathons. Rental types include epidemic prevention center mobile toilets (with enhanced disinfection capabilities), portable mobile toilets (lightweight and easy to deploy), and eco-friendly mobile toilets (water-saving and energy-efficient designs). Through modular combinations, they meet the needs of events of different scales, demonstrating the flexibility and adaptability of public health services.

Pudong New Area's practice demonstrates that mobile ecological toilets are not just an upgrade of infrastructure but also a manifestation of refined and human-centered urban management, providing a replicable public space optimization solution for other regions.
